How to Detect Trackers?

I had to fire 2 guys for removing the device.
It was right on the paperwork they signed when i hired them.
"The work vehicles have tracking devices. "

They decided that they would play a "funny" on their supervisor.
Supervisor told me.
I fired them.
It was not funny to them anymore.
That's why I'd much rather have a stipend and a gas card than a company vehicle, if it's any kind of option. Funny how much you need to fill up Thursday night or Friday morning when you've got that deal. :flipoff2:

most of that shit is for insurance and liability.

expose the company to liability and they fire you. it's pretty simple.
especially after you were made aware of the consequences prior.
As if being engaged in a business that does shit and has trucks and hires drivers isn't a huge amount of liability. If you can't trust your drivers to a pretty large extent trackers (beyond basic LoJack type shit to prevent theft) and gas pedal monitors isn't gonna help you to a meaningful extent at the end of the day.

Most likely some fuckwad in accounting is trying to save a few bucks forcing that shit on everyone and DGAF about morale because other teams morale isn't in their KPIs.

Like I said, insurance and liability.

It all started
When the owner of the company, found one employee going to a strip bar while he was supposed to be at a job site next county over.
Owner called the gc, ummm he called and said he was running late at another job.

There were a few others incidents.
Owner said sorry cannot trust employees with company vehicles.

We made it clear. When hired.
No fucking around with vehicles.....
No warning.
Fucking things are expensive
Company was a non profit housing company.
Good to see a company vehicle at a bar or strip club......
I was paid to Director of Facilities....at the end of the day it was my job to let them go.

The guy at the strip club was absolutely non-profiting. Wasn’t that the main goal?

And why didn’t you have your ‘supervisor’ to fire them for you?

Or did you fired this ‘supervisor’ for failure to supervise them?
Supervisor found they disabled tracker.
When the tracker goes off-line, he was notified. He checked it out. Brought to my attention. I brought it to hr.
Hr talked to employees.
Then i was told they were to be let go.
My job, with hr by my side.
I hired employees under me, i fired employees under me.

I no longer have that job.
Was not my thing being management.
Moved on to better less stress job.

anyone that works with HR can't be trusted

Well I guess I owe you assholes a thank you. I do believe I found the drain in my 05 Escalade. It's been paid off for years and rarely gets drove so the battery is constantly dieing.:homer: This looks like two separate systems to me.

Insurance can be lower for having trackers monitored.

Insurance cost is a HUGE expense for many businesses.

Don't fuck around with stuff that can cost the employer more $$

alarm system.

I do not see a tracker there.
The larger one on the right is a remote start that I'm sure is not helping I thought the smaller one on the left was a second deal possibly a tracker. Same system you think? Either way I dont want the drain...

Idk I generally agree and usually think a forward facing dash cam solves all but I’ve found a few cases other ones make sense. One of which was frameless scrap tub trailers that had a really high center of gravity and a guy who already rolled a truck before. Small outfit so the lost truck/trailer and insurance increase hurt their productivity pretty bad. His truck had one of those cameras that went off when you corner too fast. It was a deal made between him and the company so he could keep his job and stay on insurance after the first roll over and not have a second one. Company was happy and he was happy. Guy did 48 months with the camera and did fine but rolled another truck 1.5ish years after the camera came out of the truck. Coincidence maybe but I don’t think entirely so

Also insurance is now used to gatekeep who succeeds and how much they can but that’s a rant for another day

you are telling me that there isn't a electronic sniffer gizmo that you can't buy that will beep and let you know you are being tracked?
I know nothing about that shit, but I would think there would be something by now

If you are being tracked in real time, I’m sure there is a device that can detect it. If you location is just being recorded for later to see where you went, I don’t think so.

My opinion would be different if OP was running rental fleet or running a NAPA and hiring some white trash teenagers to rip around in Transit Connects delivering parts or hiring a bunch of steering wheel holders that come from countries where it's normal and accepted to behave as badly as you can get away with.

You gotta treat "higher class" employees like service techs in company trucks a little nicer than that.

Depends on the device. Digital electronics are gonna leak some amount of electro magnetic radiation that can be detected.

Think about old school bug sweeping and bomb detecting. Those devices don't have cellular modems. The detecting equipment is just detecting the EM leakage from the electronics.

You would think that should be the case but it doesn't really matter, "higher class" employees will goof off just the same.

I worked for the orange box equipment division, rental division had been using Samsara for a couple of years. They implemented no phone calls while driving, no exceptions. Every meeting for 3 weeks it was talked about the addition of Samsara for equipment division, boss said keep your nose clean. Well following week 1 tech rear ended somebody and caused a 3 car pile up, 2 techs in Ohio got caught hot boxing on duty, and another caught taking his children to school on the clock.

Now they have Samsara nagging at them all the time. Following closer than 3 seconds, nag - speeding 5 over or doing over 70, nag - Touch your phone, call from your manager with 1 warning if his boss didn't catch it, otherwise your gone. His workload went up considerably.

This was a good job with a lot of freedom, paid door to door, good bennies, company van kept at your house, and fairly easy work. The few always seem to ruin it for the rest.

What would this be? I instantly guessed tracker but couldn't find any similar images.

I found it loosely stuffed in the fuse panel kick plate* of a new to me diesel Cayenne; it was wrapped with some really sticky non-vulcanizing rubbery rope; probably to keep it somewhat secure and keep it from rattling around. No external wiring, no PNs molded into the housing.

No way to open (no clips or fasteners) so will probably just take a grinder to it and open it the easy way. I'm guessing the "hump" is about the equivalent of a D-cell battery.

*And for fuck's sake Porsche, I had to use a trim/panel pry tool to crack into the fuse panel. You would think they would mold in a relief to stick a key, a coin, small screwdriver, etc. But no, out came a pry. I've owned/tracked pcars for 25+ years and it's always these little things that make me roll my eyes.

Yeah, I posted it already.

It's not as simple as you'd think. Different frequencies, spread spectrum signals, different modulations.

It's not like it's the 60s anymore, you're surrounded by a multitude of radio signals everyday and you have to be able to discriminate all the noise and pick out the one you're looking for.
