It doesnt make sense to me. Every other type of trailer I see, from flatbed to enclosed, has the coupler well braced, and theres even a guideline with a max length from bottom of coupler to the gusset/bracing

I see them all the time so obviously they hold up. What kind of black magic is this?
 
Yes exactly, that seems like a LOT of leverage. Feels like it would snap in case of uneven braking (truck braked engage, trailer dont, or vice versa)
 
Never seen one before. Seems like a bad idea just from 1st glance. That's a lot of weight on the pivot point. Got to be reports of failure of that set up.
 
They're strong. It's not like that's a piece of exhaust tubing butt welded to a hyundai hood. :homer:
 
I’ve never seen one of those. I’m guessing they work because we have mechanical engineers that know their shit.
 
If you look at the upper section it looks every bit as strong and similar to a normal bumper pull. Adding the lower section with the extreme separation and bracing between makes it even stronger.
