What's new

How hard is inflation going to hit, or has hit?

100% possible. Quarrying company I used to work for had more buying power than dealers. Their price from Cat direct was less than the dealers could get in many cases. Almost certainly plenty of agreements in that case to not flip them right back to the dealer/other users.

its been a while since the conversation, but i want to say there was a timeline in which they had to possess the vehicles per their agreement. so if the mileage got racked up quickly they would park them.

old rental?

i used to rent trucks a lot for work and was talking with the enterprise guy that was dropping me off once. he said that enterprise had enough buying power they sell the trucks they rent for more than they buy them even after renting them.
No brand new

Funny too see the troll mod getting caught on his multiple lies and not address them. About what I expected. Keep tossing insults, might as well make yourself look worse.

Not that you gaf but, you know i usually stay pretty impartial unless im just trying to add som humor by flinging poo... However im in the opposite camp as you on this one.
It sure seems that you knowingly or not embellished your claims in the begining and slowly walked further back with every othee post while hurling insults along the way.

At the same time others made a bigger deal of it then necessary... I genuinly wanted to see your orrigonal numbers work out.

Meh

Just to stir the pot, why not? What makes it so scary? I mean is someone going to come in the middle of the night, hold a gun to your head and rape your wife? I don't think so. At most they repo the vehicle and your credit takes a hit. Even if the economy collapses there is a good chance the lender may work with you to try to get some money out of the vehicle vs trying to sell it for pennies on the dollar.

It sounds like in Poke's situation that he has at least been able to increase his down payment with every new deal. I'd imagine if he could keep it going that eventually he could just pay cash for something. I've often wondered if I could do something similar in the jeep market seeing how retarded that market is right now.

I'd be interested to hear from Poke on his concerns with this method of financing if any?

Kevin

Just two different mindsets. Poke has accepted he will always have a payment for a new car.

I dislike any new car made in roughly the last 10 years. I can find good things, but the whole package doesnt appeal to me. I cant find the personal utility or value in a vehicle more than $20k. My wife has a loaded 2015 duramax with 80k, if it wasnt paid off I would fret the payment and looming failures.

I admit I'm a outlier. I'm a millenial with the mindset of a boomer. I fucking hate electronics in vehicle. I prefer my radio to have 20 buttons, cant stand a touch screen.

I orefer rebuilding vehicles. I see a $1000 month payment can build be something badass. I enjoy it.

$1,000 x 12 months = $12,000

I certainly can (re)build something badass for $12,000. And likely will take me about as long to complete the build anyway.

misread the post, thought he meant 1k in general.

either way, 12k a year doesnt build much either. Guys have stupid money and countless hours into projects. 1k a month ca get burnt up on tools only

I disagree

10 years ago I built a cclb f350 on 37s with a p pump 12v and an nv4500 for $2500 by hustling my ass off, I posted the whole thing and running total on the dark side.
I could do the same thing today for 10k with a little less hustling.

My "toy" budget is still 5k

Clearly, people here are more resourceful and talented than you are. Not to worry, I'm sure the dealer will set you up in the next new body style. :flipoff2:

I can wrench, am resourceful, its just money and time kept getting wasted, and I got tired of it. You know what Im talking about. Everything is an evergoing project, nothing is ever "finished".

Maybe if I quit working 7 days a week Ill find the time to wrench and enjoy it. But when its a second job on top of an already busy schedule, no thanks, I rather fo fishing :flipoff2:

All financial arguments aside, I’m from NY and a 3 year old vehicle certainly will rust. A 5 year old Chevy will have a bubbling box at the fender arches. I think it’s the salt brine they’ve started to use.
I think that's happening anywhere there's even the slightest big of ice/snow. Even here in NC, it seems like when there's even a little ice forecasted you'll see them out pretreating the roads with brine. My old truck was pretty much spotless when I moved here from TX. Within 2 years I started noticing lots of rust on fasteners and suspension parts.

I have 2 co-workers with 6-7 year old Dodge 1500s that the rockers are rusting out of and the fender wells are all rusty (granted one just traded it in on a new one).

how are the AL fords holding up?

dmv has been on and off and thats adding to the work load because its the new people + the old people that never left. And its 72 payments. The irony - the f250 barely has 2k miles in the 3 months i had it.. the suby will probably get totalled due to stupidity before I am even 1/2 through the payments :homer: fun little car

I just like to ask. "What if prices keep going up for 2-3 years and crash back to todays prices"

If your in it for the long haul i dont think there is ever a bad time to purchase a home you can afford
This! I got fucked bad on stocks during this covid mess because of this line of thinking. I kept holding out buying back in due to an imment crash that is not coming and if it did, it will crash down the levels that I deemed as "too expensive". I lost my ass in paper gains, but no way would I play that game with actual money flowing out of my pocket. Once inflation REALLY hits, they will be completely fucked.

man, I gotta take some pics of my new f350's frame next time I'm near it
that thing has a doubled frame in places and man oh man does it hate life

I've replaced several windshields in the ones I've bought, and the glass guys always say the same thing. They're shit.

The body seam where the a pillar meets the roof comes unglued, however you want to call it, and they leak. Shouldve taken pics of the last one I did. The dash also peels up by the defrost. Was told that's more of a texas heat issue though.

Drivetrain/chassis are pimp. Panels are shit. Body guys also hate working on them.

Old shit will continue to go up in price due to ease of repair and dependability. Or get comfy with that monthly payment and not give a fuck. This generation of vehicles is going to be an ugly stepchild in the future

In the non cancer land I live in they are holding up great. I don’t like them for other reasons, but the aluminum construction isn’t the problem the critics were promising you it would be. I’m currently in the 3rd aluminum ferd truck and they have their strong suits. The biggest one that comes to mind is how quiet they are inside compared to the same package steel body’s are.

well, fuck. that would be a deal breaker. I was hoping it to be my "forever" truck

Its not a huge deal, just something that needs to be addressed. The seam sealer just doesnt stick. If you have the windshield replaced (was $375 for the base) just scrape and reseal. If you get water in the cab, you know why.

I also fucking hate the sliding rear window. The tracks are glued to the glass so its all one piece to replace.

dont have sliding rear window, so I am good there.

I think it's a moot point. I've stripped a lot of interiors and you can see the difference/increase in sound proofing material.

If you took a weekend, $500-1000, and followed ProjectTwin advice... any pickup can be made quiet and comfy.

I’ve had a new truck every two years on average since 2005, so I’ve been fairly immediately up to date with base level truck changes. The 18 up trucks have a level of torque management I find to be absolutely unacceptable. That feature is meant to save the vehicle from getting damage. In my case it lends to causing damage to the vehicle.

The torque management and antilock brakes combined have gotten me into far more trouble than they’ve ever saved me. I had a 2015 aluminum truck, that was the last truck I considered a GREAT truck. I then had a 2018 Ford, then a 2018 GMC. Now I’m in a 20 Ford. I hated all 3 of them and it’s 100% due to nanny controls.

I don't usually keep up with all the digression in these threads, just pop in and look for the cliffs version, but you bunch of assholes have been babbling for a week about what fuckin trim package or financing terms you got on your trucks, what the fuck :flipoff2:

cliffs: base trim package with 84 month @ 2-3% apr is your best bet :flipoff2:
