How hard is inflation going to hit, or has hit?

I'll look for the article, or the quote or whatever, but it had a very interesting point that's pretty profound when it settles in

The more digital "goods" and "services" that are sold, the more real inflation remains hidden, or suppressed.
When these intangibles soak up the watered down dollars and remove them from the market place of tangible goods and services, it's hidden. If there were 5 copies of a best selling book or movie on the shelf, when the stimmy checks came, shop owners would start raising prices, but by selling an unlimited amount of digital copies, it remains hidden.

I just went to Chicom Freight, and had been planning on stocking up on their 9 mil thickness gloves as soon as they came in stock. Well, they are in stock... At $23 a box!

Needless to say, I only bought one box instead of stocking up like I had planned.

They jacked them up at the early stages of covid due to "shortages". All the store around me have signs up next to them saying their price went up the same amount as the supply price and they aren't making any more off of them and the price will drop when the supply price drops.

Luckily I still had a few boxes from the old days of coupons....but I've been forced to start rationing them. :(

was looking to fly north to look at a property. Rental car prices are astronomical, if they are even available. 52 hours, basic car, out of MSP... over $500....:lmao:

Look at Turo. We rented a 2014 Explorer through them for 6 days with pickup and dropoff at the Phoenix Airport for under $400

convenience issue. if I do this, i'll land and have to be in a car for a 2 hour drive immediately... similar on the return...

i might just bite the bullet and do the 14 hour drive. Will cost me $350 in diesel and two full days time/frustration... but will save me about $7-800

The guy we rented from had it at the airport parking lot, he gave us the code for the door locks and the key was in the center console.
Much quicker than waiting at a rental counter.

Inflation is certainly real. These were less than $20 a year ago.

I've got a really shitty jetta wagon you can borrow for free, it smokes bad and currently doesn't have anything but a driver's seat but its all I've got that's remotely loan-out-able
I'd even pick you up, bb

ETA: which direction is the 2hr drive?

Rockotas wife
"I just don't understand why you don't take that 486 guy up on his offer, all those jeep guys have been so nice"

"No, he's cool, it's just, it's, it's a long story. Ima just drive my truck"

maybe if he made mention of food, drink and romance.... :flipoff2:

Hmm, not shocked at all
The Fed is going to go into damage control as they thought just saying inflation is transitory would be enough to will the prices to stay low and people not to panic.

Apparently they can't wish it away. Buckle up folks

Yea, for whatever reason I'm thinking this is about to get a whoooooole lot worse. We're, what, six months into a Democratic presidency? Jesus...

The seeds for this were planted a long time ago, and by both parties.

Not sure, but the last four years seemed pretty good?

Seemed is quite accurate. During those four years, the federal government kept adding to the debt at rates higher than Obama's worst years. And all those federal aid programs for covid people here hate so much? Signed by a Republican president with the support of the congressional GOP.

This mess we are in was not created in six months.

Anyone hear anything about Wells Fargo shutting down home equity lines of credit? Iirc they did that a few months before the 08 crash

Sold that house a little over a year ago. Would have been nice to keep it and get another 70k

Maybe. But I am guessing you sold that one to buy another one. If you had waited to get the higher value from the old house, the new one would have also increased value, probably about the same or close. So by waiting you would have ended up with the same ownership position and a higher than necessary loan amount, which will cost you more in interest and payoff. Currently you have a lower loan amount at a nice low interest rate. I would be pretty happy about that.
