How big of a shithole is Clear Lake CA?

I've lived just south of the lake near Cobb mountain for a bit over 4 years now.

the whole county is fairly poor. Being on the lake, you're gonna be in the 'populated' area and subject to more of the less then stellar folks.

plenty of druggies, but unless you're in their neighborhood, it doesn't seem to bad.

the more rural you go, the nicer it is to me. There is not much to offer in the county for shopping or anything, like 1 major grocery store and a discount one for each of the city areas.

always a fire danger, even by the lake somewhat. Some sections only have 1 or 2 paths out and it's tight twisty roads.

the lake itself is ok... algae blooms from about July till September usually.

plan on driving 2 hours to get to most anything major.

if you visit only stay at the best western in clearlake.

I have been mostly all over CA, but not to the Clearlake area. I lived in Ventura County, the Salinas valley, and Valencia for a time.

I would love to be up by Truckee/Auburn, but then I have no desire for a large mortgage.

What did you think of salinas valley? I've been here for 3 years now and cant make up my mind if it's where I want to stay.

I cant really speak of it, since I was a kid when I lived in Salinas, but I wouldnt go back.

I lived in Salinas as a kid until about 3rd grade, then we moved to King City until the summer of my sophomore year in High School. King City was just one gang of migrant worker kids (Greenfield) vs King City migrant worker kids. As I remember, my parents left Salinas due too crime, so Im not sure what it is now.

When we moved to Ojai after it was so much better, buy a huge margin. I would move back to Ventura County, but its big bucks.

Arent you near Santa Cruz? I had only been there once. Mostly Monterey, Seaside, Salinas, Gilroy, Hollister, King City, my dads shop was in Gonzales.

Clearlake is God's humorous attempt at goading humans into a ruse, such as "take this land from the mosquitos" ...seriously now.

Want a successful business there? Open up a lab mfg partial dentures. :cookie:

I'm in prunedale about 5 miles north of the edge of Salinas (boronda rd) now. I really miss the small town feel of the santa Cruz mountains but enjoy having useable land and being close to everything a city small has to offer.

Just looked up our old address in Salinas. It was on that side of the city as well (224 Pueblo Drive) I google earthed it, havent seen that house in 25 years. No clue how I remebered the address.

Not far from me. That's always seemed like a nice but odd little neighborhood that I think everyone forgets about. No significant traffic because there is no reason for anyone other then residents to be in the area

Ya, I remember walking to school (Kamman Elementary) and the store to the east. Somewhere within walking distance was a park with tennis courts.

When we moved from there to King City, King City was a solid MEH. The High School sucked.

Then, the move to Ojai was AWESOME. Such a cool spot. 20 minutes to the mountains, 20 minutes to the beach, and an awesome high school.

I wish I had way more time in Ojai.

Never even heard of it.... off to do some googling

Edit: does look cool, like Santa Barbara in the mountains

My friend's family has a vacation house on the water in Clearlake Oaks (west side end of the lake). Her grandfather built it, I presume before it turned into a shit hole.

Clearlake Oaks has a ton of waterfront homes because a developer dug a bunch of channels (they call them the keys) with apparently zero interest in how much algae would grow in shallow stagnant warm water.

We typically go every Memorial Day Weekend, before the algae in the lake blooms like crazy. The north and west sides of the lake tend to have cleaner water.

The whole place feels really impoverished and methy, but they don't have any vandalism issues that I'm aware of. I remember going for a pontoon boat cruise around the keys when it was foggy one year, and I swear you could film a zombie movie there. The docks collapsing and falling into the lake, siding falling off houses, old boats in a variety of disrepair, zero people to be seen, etc.

Over the years I have also come to the realization that people shouldn't be allowed to own property right on the water. It's bad for the area actually and limits lake access which turn's the parks into shit holes and homeless hangouts.

Hold on....you have some commie belief that i shouldnt be allowed to buy property on the water at a lake?:homer: What the fuck is meant to happen to that property, a peaceful place for the newest homeless camp instead of in the loca park? Having $$$ homes put in is good for the city/county revenue.

Lemme change this up a bit so that you can possibly answer with something legit.

What possible fucking good does you living on the lake do for the lake?

Are you taking from the lake or is there a water utility that provides and if the is are you using you "littoral rights"? And if so refer back to the previous question.

Is there a sewer system on your street or do you have a septic tank?

Do you inhibit any possible wildlife from making a home on the shore that you choose to invade?

Is there any indication that you live on the lake.

( no litter water toys or likewise)

Is the lake your lifeline or is it pleasure?

Did natives once live there?

Are they gone now?

Lot's of stuff to consider living on the shores of a body of water.

Will there be any name calling in this thread? :cookie:

I see that this has amped up in the anger levels :flipoff2:. Im kinda stoked, ive never been called a **** on PBB or IBB before. Popping my cherry.

What possible fucking good does you living on the lake do for the lake? -Prevents a bigger **** than me who doesn't prevent runoff from chemicals and fertilizer, trashes up the waterfront, clear cuts and pushes native species that are on the lot out, and fails at erosion mitigation from owning the lot :flipoff2:

Are you taking from the lake or is there a water utility that provides and if the is are you using you "littoral rights"? And if so refer back to the previous question. - Water from an aquifer, that is not related to the lake. Own to the center of the finger of the lake.

Is there a sewer system on your street or do you have a septic tank? septic on the property roughly 1/4 mile from lake

Do you inhibit any possible wildlife from making a home on the shore that you choose to invade? - Other than Canadian geese, nope. I enjoy the ducks and the king snakes at the shoreline keep the water moccasins dead.

Is there any indication that you live on the lake.( no litter water toys or likewise) - Yeah, a giant fucking boat house and sailboat . There is no litter, toys strewn around, or the general floating trash many keep at their docks. Nothing that can blow away into the lake is kept outside at the dock.

Is the lake your lifeline or is it pleasure? - Office away from home, relaxation.

Did natives once live there?- Pretty sure they didn't anytime that was relevant as there was not a lake here in the time of the noble savage. This lake is used for hydro generation and has been ever since it was flooded by the TVA.

Are they gone now? - See above

Lot's of stuff to consider living on the shores of a body of water. - Sure are, and i think about quite a few of them often. One of the points i think about the most is the increased need for shore protection required to prevent shore erosion due to the introduction of all the wake surfing boats.
