What software are you running and how much do you love or hate it? Is it worth the money?

I started out with Palmtech probably 10 years ago. Worked well enough for what I needed. Was on the fence about closing down my business last year but decided to stick it out another year. Covid was a HUGE kick in the dick for my business. Anyways the version of palmtech I was using is no linger supported, even with their “lifetime” support bullshit line. So I tried their newest version because I would probably somewhat know the system and it was the cheapest. Everything is subscription based now a days it seems. I absolutely hate the paltech complete software. Fucking middle school computer science class could have done better. Thinking about trying another company before I say fuck it this PITA isn’t worth it anymore. I know there are a few inspectors on here. Who’s running what software?

not a home inspector, but I never imagined that there would be a program for it.
can you explain?
I imagined that you were running down a checklist that the insulation was there, and the ground wires were attached
now I am interested

You essentially are running down a checklist. But you need a written description of what you found wrong and everyone love’s pictures…

Good software makes it quick and painless. Bad software makes you want to scream

Well when I was forced to switch software like 3 months ago this was the “pinnacle” of what they had to offer. 3 months later they have a new version very similar to the original version. LMFAO.

The UI is so bad on this current one.

Of course they use software. Do you think they manually type out "Suggest further inspection by a licensed plumber/electrician/structural engineer/pool boy." after every item?

I don not know, it isn't my trade. That is why I just asked the guy in that particular trade.
Unlike some know-it-all fucks in here I will admit when I do not know. This happens to be one time that I was curious

Do cashiers count the money every time them they get handed cash?

The software is essentially a big template that breaks down all the systems of a house. The inspector fills in the individual sections with comments and pictures, and the report is built as the inspection goes on. There are generic comments that you can build in your to your template and choose from so if there’s a situation you run commonly run into you can select the comment to add to the report instead of typing it all out. It’s a big time saver.

thanks, I figured you were going under the house with a flashlight, and a knife in your teeth still
I didn't know there was such a thing

We still do that, good software just streamlines how we show and tell everything that we see. If I go up into an attic and see vermiculite insulation instead of typing out the same paragraph that I do each time I find it I can tap on a canned comment that shows on the report and I’ve saved a few minutes of time. Add a couple pictures and move on.

Oh wel still go under homes. Nothing like rolling over and hearing a crunch of an animal skeleton. :lmao:
Not related to home inspection
I had a friend that had a old silo on his farm, it was knows that the old owl lived up there and didn't think much about it as we were crawling inside
Flashlights were swinging around, every step was a very dry 'crunch' with it
look at what we are walking on and the whole bottom of the silo was inches thick with dried up mice(?) skeletons
Didnt help that he house was most likely haunted (thread here somewhere)

Strangest drain pipe i've ever seen.

Teh fawk was that doin under there

I thought he was talking about exhaust out back. No glass packs in this picture.

It looked like someone put a motorhome up on blocks, took the body off and built a house around it. Engine, trans and both axles are in it. It’s really strange.
