batch of us north east peeps are heading just south east of Tulsa for a hog hunt in early feb.
it is a spur of the moment trip, a friend of a friend has set up.
we are driving in.
he has hunted there last year. says it great. don't know name of place yet.

i assume i need to pack winter type gear.
bringing a 3006 and a 7.62x39.
we can hunt unlimited pigs and predators.

my first time doing this.
looking forward to the trip.

Take marshmallows! They love them and ear scratches!

Sweet, been wanting to do this for a long time. Name of ranch you are hunting on?

My kids cousin just went on a hog hunt in that area a few weeks ago. He killed them with a knife. Crazy fuckers. He said they had tracking dogs that would find them then they would let pitbulls lose and follow them on horseback through trees and all over the hills then the tracking dogs would back off and the pitbulls would attack then they jump in the tornado of pitbulls and hog and cut the hogs neck. He had vidya of him doing it thats crazy shit.

That sounds like fun.

That’s how a bunch of those crazies do it here too!

My experience was that they are mean and smart and there are a lot of them and they don't taste that good. I used a 308 on our place and it worked well. I rarely saw one without others close by and you should keep an eye on the whole field of action. Being in a stand will be helpful.

make sure to have at least good socks and a good cover... take some nitrile gloves in case you get one... take several pairs, lots of sharp shit on those dudes, you'll tear the gloves up.

Take some water and a couple of candy bars or energy bars or a peanut butter sandwich.

Their hides are thick, so be prepared to work. Lots of fun and the ranches need them cleared... so, you are doing a good deed.

Its been around 25F at night and around 45F during the day with a breeze. Today was cloudy, windy and cold enough that I was chilly in my Carhart insulated bibs working out all day in the wind. Bring a few layers and you will be fine.

I will be interested to see if they use dogs to run the pigs by you. Pigs in the area are hunted enough that they are nocturnal and very skittish assuming they are not on a fenced in "hunting ranch".

Best of luck and kill them all.

That’s how we hunted in Hawaii. Dogs and a knife.

thanks for the 411

Anyone mentioned bringing a cooler, ice packs & ice cubes for storage on the long trip home-

hunt them all the time at the house, generally just at night with a thermal or NV scope. pretty much any centerfire caliber, just whatever i took out there.. whether they’re good to eat or not just depends on the size generally: 60-70lbs is tasty, 200+ you’re gagging to get close enough to take a picture...
