I acquired a HILTI DAG 700-P grinder in a vehicle part out. I have only ever had a 4.5” Makita rat tail that won’t die (and I would buy another one).

Do I keep this for my light fab work or trade down for a 4.5”? It’s big, it’s heavy but it works. I’m also missing the spanner and some guard hardware but I can fix that.

I’m not cutting much these days… and when I do I have a worm gear circular saw and two bandsaws

Keep it. When you have to grind something big down you'll be glad you have it.

Keep it. When you need to remove a lot of material it's a night and day difference between a 7" and a 4.5".

I've got a 7" Milwaukee that I found in pieces in an abandoned Conex on a job many years ago. Ordered a new switch, some screws and a guard for it and it works perfectly. It's a beast and needs to be respected, but for heavy removal I don't even think about the 4.5's any more.

I get the 4.5 out and half way through I remember I own a 7.
