Long story short, a buddy of a buddy is in a tight spot and needs cash ASAP. He has a 2003 V-Rod 100th anniversary. 15,000 miles, title in hand, good condition. He wants $1500. I feel like I should jump on it. Anyone have any experience?

$1500 for a 2003 Harley? What's he a drug addict or does he owe bookies?

I thought Harleys were expensive, or are you humblebragging?

they're sport bijes with a big v twin.

at that price, buy it. if you don't like it you're not going to be out anything.

For 1500 bucks, snap it up if you have the cash.

If you meant to type 15,000, check blue book or just pass.

Hate those things and I'd snap it up for $1500 just to resell it. You could part it out and make the money back on the engine alone.

Not at all on the humblebrag. I am not a harley guy, and never have been. I don't know if there is a glaring reason this is cheap, or if the engine is about to go at 15,000 miles.

I am not sure what his situation is, and it really isn't any of my business. Just trying to glean a little info from the IBBCC.

This. $1500 deal sounds sketchy, verify title and ownership.

$15,000? No thanks.

$1,500. It does sound kinda sketchy, he is a welder in IL, and has been out of work for a while now. Maybe needs next months rent. Who knows. I am going to go look at it tonight with a trailer and cash.

Quick Google search (take it for what it is) says the engine should last into the 10's or 100's of 1000s of miles.

KBB says average value is $4k, but that may be way dafook off reality.

If the title is clean and it runs well, $1500 is a safe purchase price.

One of the most uncomfortable bikes I've been on, hate the clamshell riding position. IIRC the engine was designed by porsche, water cooled nonsense.

For $1500 I wouldve already bought it and sold it.

$1,500?

My prediction is :
He already has a title loan out on it, and is selling it without paying the title loan company.

There's not a lot of demand for those and they normally sell for around $3-4k for one that old and even then take some time to sell. It's not exactly a seller's market right now and it's getting late into the riding season in some places. $1500 isn't that crazy that I'd think your friend is out to fuck you.

If you want to make a couple hundred on it...let me know 😁

If no issues with the title, or with the bike it self, that's a steal. They are a great bike, fun to ride, and pretty quick for what they are. Not sport bike fast but for the cruiser class it's fast. Clam shell position, meh, it's all what you are used to. I have an 03, first street bike I ever had, with a windshield it's not bad at all. Any bike with forward controls put's you in the same position.

How good a friend is he? Do you trust him? If so ask him straight up whats going on. The Vrod doesnt have the same draw as the air cooled thumpers but its a solid decent riding bike and the engines are very well built. If he is a good friend and there arent any issues give him $2k and youll still be ahead and helping a friend. I ride a Street Glide but for that money Idve already bought it and put a couple hundred miles on it.

I rented one a few years ago in vegas, only harley I've ever been on. Other than feeling like it needed another gear it seemed like a decent bike. It was probably 10-15 years newer though, not sure if that changes much.

Something like this is going on. I've never wanted to ride a Harley but a clean title/uncrashed $1500 one I'd give it a quick whirl prior to selling it...

There quite heavy and are not light handling but they are stable and can move along pretty fast if you put effort into it...That one been hacked up some, a clean stock V Rod can bring 6000 grand ...Ride it and decide...

Yes, the rear end was taken apart and left for a bobber look according to the PO. It has 14k miles and I have the title in hand. It has a big nail in the rear tire and needs a litlte TLC. I figure I can have some fun with it for a while and flip it if I decide.

You got a good deal. But that Pipe tape has GOT to go. That shit is junk despite cutting down a lil heat if done right,a decent set a pipes and some Throttle is a much better option.

If you want to own a Harley but also want something that can go, turn, and stop, buy a V-Rod. If you want to roll straight down the highway for the rest of your life, buy a different Harley. :flipoff2:

I had a motorcycle shop back in Texas and mostly worked on Ducati’s and KTM’s, there were quite a few Harley’s that came through too though. One Softtail I was working on was having issues after extended rides, I ended up going down Lime Creek road on it for quite the butt-puckering adventure at every turn.

Nothing like grabbing a handful of front brake that feels like one of those spring hand excercisers with wooden brake pads, followed by wrestling it into the corner in a manner that I assume is how you’d bulldog a steer...

Okay, I was able to put a few miles on it over the weekend. It is a bike to get me on the road again, and for that I am excited, but it's definetly not a canyon carver, h. I have a rear tire on order, and while I wait for that, I need to figure out some sort of exhaust, the thing is obnoxious. Has anyone here every put a sport bike muffler on a larger V-twin? I would love to get a sound similiar to a RC-51, or KTM RC8R. Any thoughts?

Hahaha, funny.

Oh, did you only pay $1500 or less or did the deal change once you got there?
