Handheld welders - who's first?

X2 on the Milwaukee should make one of these. A 12AH on the bottom of the pistol grip with the option of hooking up an umbilical cord to a remote 12AH, or multiples.
Better plan on the "multiples".

20V x 12AH = 240 WH = 0.24 kWH

4.6kW input at full chooch = .05 hours (3.13 minutes) of run time and a smokin' battery.

Those batteries will output over 100A before the safeties shut them down.... :smokin:

I don't understand the appeal. Just looks like some bloated chunky piece of shit that will make getting the rod into where you need it more of a pain in the ass than a standard stinger.

I guess it'll take up less room than the ol' Lincoln buzzbox, but be way less practical.

I have a small home shop and don't use my welders often so I keep the mig, buzzbox and oxy set on a cart, but tucked away at the back of the shop. Most often my welding jobs are pretty small one off things (like make a nutstrip to go in a frame rail). It's a pita to get the welding cart out so I figure just grab this thing out of the tool cabinet, zap a few little beads and put it away again.
That's what appeals to me anyway.

much rather buy the similarly priced crackerbox sized welder that has two leads coming out of it
still haven't bought one because I don't trust inverters at all
I bought one. Your misplaced trust is correct. It works fine in a pinch though, but you really should run it on 240. It's borderline useless on 120, though maybe the long-ass run of 12ga to the garage has something to do with it.

most of those inverter things seem to switch input voltage automatically, not with the 220 pigtail going to different wires or anything
meaning, if you make a pigtail to put 220 through your 110 extension cord you'll jet more sneeze out the other end
just don't plug 110 things into it by mistake

I'm more mistrustful of the 'sat for five years now all the caps are dead' side of things
not so much the working out of the box or dying prematurely

Something like this would be way more ergonomic than the 5lb plastic Jetsons gun.

That's exactly how it works. It came with a 220-100 adapter. Had to buy another $15 adapter to convert that one to the plug my outlets use.

I already have a cord to do exactly that for shit like soldering irons that are too dumb to care but could use the extra juice.

I've got a very similar one, 220v, had it 5+ years, for the occassional repair its great! Inverter powered so you can run it off a generator. For less than $100 you can't go wrong.

Just a teaser update, I got the welder and first impression is good. Except for that origami eye shield - that is good for a laugh. :lmao:.
Haven't had a chance to use it but daughter needs a bit of welding on her exhaust this weekend - will update more then. But for starters, this thing is much lighter than it looks. I was worried it would be cumbersome to move around but now I really don't see that being a problem

Take pics. And give impressions
