Gout: The Disease of Kings

I walked around a bit today, I'd say about 3 miles, and the pain is mostly gone, just stiff and a few twinges. I fasted a little bit but you're not supposed to get into ketosis because the ketones compete with the uric acid to get out. I have two pork chops and an entire roast thawed out but I'm down to eating bird portions, so I have to make it all up and freeze it.

The right foot bump has gone down a lot, and it's also filled in with fluid, so the bump is not nearly as noticeable as it was yesterday morning. You can see where the skin is all darkened on the knuckles, that is pre-diabetic and gouty skin problems from what I read. I'm better than the doctors I've been seeing the last few years, so I see no need to go there and get told to do what I'm already doing.

This has been going up and down for the last week, so it's not septic arthritis otherwise my foot would have rotted off by now :lmao:

I finally broke down and took some naproxen today. That's a big deal as I typically don't take pharmas for anything, especially NSAIDS. Seems to have almost cured it at this point. Amazing.

Gout is painful.

Had it off and on for a few years. I found the Montmorency tart cherry juice helps to get rid of it. If I feel it coming on I drink some and it goes away much faster than without. My first bout hit me shortly after I broke my ankle. Broken and kle and gout in the toe of the same foot is not fun. Do gave me colchicine and said "take this until the gout is gone or until you get tired of the diarrhea." On about day 9 I got tired of my buttons burning and having to wipe by taking a shower. Since then I have adjusted my diet but find that my best results come from staying well hydrated. As long as I am peeing clear I am good if it get dehydrated I get gout. It takes a few days of being behind in my hydration to do it but to many days peeing yellow and I will get it.

Lots of good info in here. I always thought it was funny they call it the rich man's disease. I've been broke as dammit for years and still got it. Maybe I am supposed to be rich but just havent bought the right lottery ticket yet

Thanks for the breed information as well. Luckily I live in Michigan which has vast cherry juicing orchards. I'll look around for that.

I thought I was well-hydrated, I drink between 1-2 gallons of water a day. My obesity just got the better of me, along with a near perfect storm of dietary choices. Which I didn't know about until my toe was on fire.

I did talk about the fact that Gout is no longer the Rich Man's Disease:

“The common cold is well named – but the gout seems instantly to raise the patient’s social status”,

and to another in Punch in 1964,

“In keeping with the spirit of more democratic times, gout is becoming less upper-class and is now open to all … It is ridiculous that a man should be barred from enjoying gout because he went to the wrong school.”

Like that picture above, in the old days, the Rich man was the Fat Man. His servants were slim. Only a Rich Man could afford rich foods and beers to get gout. Franklin said that God must want us to be happy, for he gave us beer.

But today, everyone can get the Disease of Kings.

Check your local health food stores for a concentrate. I get one that costs around $25 bucks for a quart jug. It takes 2 tablespoons to 8 oz of water. It lasts a long time. Just keep it in the fridge and use it when i feel it coming on and each day u til it goes away then a day or 2 for insurance. $25sou do steep but it does go a long ways being concentrated.

$25 ain’t shit to walk again. I’d pay really anything when it’s in my toe.

It’s on my list to buy tomorrow.

Truly, thank you.

Gout sucks! Had an attack so bad, lasted a week. Had to take Prednisone to kick it. Now if I'm gonna drink, I take 1allopurinol. So far so good.

This is from 2 recent flair ups. I’m on IV infusions of Kristexaxa but it doesn’t seem to help

Holy shit fuckin’ hell damn holy crap WTF.

I might not sleep tonight knowing you have that.

Im assuming the bandaids on your foot are from a self-inflicted gunshot to remove said foot.

Mine is going down just swilling water and keeping my electrolytes up (baking soda and No Salt). I also cut back on drinking and switched to chicken and vegetables (I did eat up a small roast I had, it was thawed).

Last, I finally broke down and got some Naproxen, which has made it swell way down (it was never as bad as yours) and took most of the pain away. I'm going to get a tart cherry concentrate of some type, I just haven't decided yet. I wanted to just give my body a break and let it clean up, now I'm on a pain pill. The solution to all of it is to drop more weight and not eat so many sardines and smothered pork and a whole can of honey roasted peanuts in a day:lmao:

Rich man's disease, yeah right...

Everybody knows Benjamin Franklin was a flaming homo & no one at Irate mentions playing with mens's equipment?

Enjoy your gout & if you get carried away, go pout :flipoff2:

Band aid is where they extracted the fluid From the joint and gave me a steroid injection.

The toe is still swelled up but I can walk more or less normally with a slight favoring of it.. The terrible pain has abated, and now it's been 2 nights with no pain in the middle of the night. My sleep is all fucked up, and it's still tender down there.

2 days with no naproxene, I took a total of 6, 1/2 pills the last 4 times.

Oh and I ate a bunch of celery which I heard helps clear it out. Dunno, couldn't find any local extracts but I will look more online. Cancelled Prime this month.
