Looking at starti.g a LONG term build. I have a pretty clean stripped YJ tub that was given to me with a title. Thinking of building a square tube chassis and tube the top out. Tons 42s blah blah blah yall know the deal.

I was looking at the IBEX subframe as a way to get ALOT knocked out easy and relatively cheap IMO for what you get. Cant seem to find any build where someone used the sub frame and built a chassis on it.

Instant question I have

-will the floor of the factory tub be able to stay "mostly" intact or does the driveline tuck up super high on the buggy options using the subframe?

Anyone have any input? Build threads?

i used it as a base for tj buggy build, and it worked great. i did not use any of the stock floor or firewall on mine tho.

Do you think most of the floor would have worked? I'm sure I'll be cutting out trams tunnel and what not. I'm going with a simple square tube Fran so being able to use the factory body mount to keep the body on the fame will be nice. Cage and tube work will be tied to frame. Kinda like my yota build but with a heep.

I'm not trying to recreate the entire wheel. If I have to do all that I'll just go full buggy.

It's one of the best easy buttons available. A few companies like Motobuilt and Barnes have very impressive belly pan/subframe options for YJ/TJ that have good frames, but could be adapted to a tube frame but that Goatbuilt is in a league of its own.

i think you could keep some of the floor sections, but the subframe upper mounts get into the floor pretty good where the floor pan dips down.

How are you going to work on it if you have a full tub with no removatble panels and a subframe that doesn't come apart ?

The amount of factory floor you can use really depends on what your belly height goals/requirements are. Here is a drawing with the 4 link option (three link front is also available).

The subframe is made out of DOMEX 100 (100 kpis yield material), laser cut and formed, and then pickled and oiled. There is no mill scale or laser slag, and it has a light coating of oil to prevent rust prior to assembly, includes removable trans crossmember as well.. It can also be purchased with the corresponding boatside tubes, rocker tubes, full skid plates, engine cross member and engine oil pan skid plate (all DOMEX100).

If you really wanted to press the easy button, it can be purchased with the frame from the TJ/LJ kit. It includes CNC cut 2X3 frame rails that would work with the YJ tub.

8l90/np205 in my build with goatbuilt subframe. I would say it is relatively easy to drop the combo out the bottom. Tcase comes out 1st then trans. That is using 2 post and trans jack.

As far factory floor, it depends how low u are trying to get tub on subframe. I ended up with completely flat floor, that is with trans almost touching subframe and intake almost touching hood. As low as it could get.

There are alot of variables to how u could do it. A yj has a deeper footwell area than a cj. U will be doing some level of floor modification I think.

goatbuilt subframe is a great option!
