What's new

Giving the youtubes thing a shot.....

Keep uploading them. It is more interesting watching YT channels of members I know on here than most random channels, (excluding Artie's). Someone mentioned spidr's channel and I've subbed to both his and yours. If I can get a couple things done here at work, I'm going to sit and watch all your videos, as I've just got a couple clips thus far, but dig it.

Every time I hear a member's voice that I've seen around bb's for years, it is always higher than I would have thought. :flipoff2:

I think you're on a good path, it's good to have a differing opinion like your wife's or others to bounce ideas off and find out what worked and what didn't.

Might be there are some other decent open source video editors out there if canva is limiting you. I just don't know which ones are good these days because I've been out of the game for too long.

We downloaded divinci but couldn't get it to open, need to mess with it more.

My wife wants to try Adobe premiere, since she's more familiar with it. Guess we just need to play with them and see.

You're doing a pretty nice job of choosing the right video length for subject. If it's Jefferson and son's, build up some family aspect of it, I think it works as a bonus aspect to keep the viewer loyal, they start to feel like they know you more personally.

We plan to include them, the whole build was revolved around making sure they all fit and are safe, which will be talked about in the walk around.

Guess the hormone treatment isn't working as fast as I thought :flipoff2:

Keep at it, and you may just get some peach fuzz going as an added bonus in a few weeks. :flipoff2:

I don't know what's best for the most views, but I enjoy some of the 15 to 20 min vids on the channels I watch, but I'm definitely a long form detail guy. I'm that viewer that will watch a 2hr YT vid of a guy machining a single part etc. A long one mixed in every now and then would be dope.

You're assuming which way the hormones are going :flipoff2:

Good to know. I kinda came up with the "quick tips" idea last night. Going to be sub 5 min videos similar to the welder on. Then most other videos in the shop I'll shoot for 15-20 and wheelin trips will be 30ish?

I posted a short of the boys 2 summers ago, maybe that will help with the family aspect.

Makes me laugh every time

Davinci is really powerful. I dig it. Premiere has a large following though and you're more likely to be able to find answers to questions and how-tos on the internet for it.

Just remember us little folk when you're schmoozing with Cleetus and all the other yootoob stars next week

Remember who?

So what do you guys think on frequency of posting? I have another "Quick tips" totally ready, but I'm thinking about waiting a few days.

Actually have 2 ready

At least once a week for most.

Me personally I wouldn't go nuts, id go for a stable update schedule of once a week, twice if you're ambitious. IMO better to start off slow and ramp up if you find you have time to edit more. Worst case if you end up with a big backlog of videos you can always release a bonus video here or there.

Once a week is the common youtoober move, right?

The Utah crew (MORR, Fab Rats, Layton) post a few times a week. Hoovie and Car Wizard are two or three a week.

Some of the woodworking channels I watch are once a week.

Once or twice a week, don't burn yourself out, and don't spam too much content before existing videos have a chance to get their initial views. It can take a few days before the algorithm blesses you with views on a video and if you post too often, some of those videos won't get their shot.

At least with my content, time of day or day of week doesn't seem to really make a difference on how a video does long term.

I was thinking one or 2 of the shorter quick tips a week, then one longer one. But you guys are right, easy to get burnt out at that rate. Especially since we both have jobs and a family.

I do have the luxury of having lots of old pics and some short videos. So I can always fill in with back story stuff. At the same time, me talking over basically a slide show isn't great content.

What's your end goal? Full time YouTuber? Or just a hobby? If you're doing it just for the hell of it, then I wouldn't stress about your update schedule too much.
If you want to go full time then you're gonna have to do IG, FB and all those other dumb social media sites.

I think it would be awesome to be able to do this full time.

We have an IG and fb

Hell yeah fuckin go for it

So I'm a fan of MORR's update schedule. Every weekend you get a 18-30 minute video update on the current build. Then during the week you get random stuff; recoveries, wheeling videos etc. But it works, the people interested in the build know they're getting an update every Sunday. So then during the week you do smaller videos with little tricks, or maybe (for example) an indepth look at something challenging you glossed over in the build. Random welding/fab tips and tricks, wheelin videos, shorts, etc.
IMO one video a week for a month or two while you gather viewers and then go up to 2 if you can, once you have enough viewers that your videos won't be competing against themselves for views. I feel like most people when looking at a channel don't necessarily look at the update frequency right away, but definitely do check the number of views i the videos already have.

I don't have a problem watching a 25 minute video since I can watch it during lunch break at work, but 45 minutes is pushing it unless it's super interesting. Lots of cool videos in my watch list because I don't have that much free time to dedicate to it.

Thats a good idea to keep the longer videos from getting to tedious and boring for some, then if enough people ask, I can do a short video with lots of explanation.

Thanks for your input, it sounds like a good plan.

i think i use cyberlink 365 for editing or something of the sort. i really enjoy it. i can take a bunch of different formats on put in one vid and it will make it one mp4 so to speak. plus editing is simple. just play around with a some and get one that you like.

It will work, I'm betting a decent metal cap would hold the same pressure as a core, but I'm not saying it's a good idea.

im just messin with ya :flipoff2: i have the o-ringed metal caps, because they do a better job keeping mud out of the stems.

CyberLink PowerDirector 365. Thats what i have. Works pretty good, but i dont have much experience with other software (aside from Movie Maker) to compare it to.

yep thats it.

i tried the gopro shit and that pissed me off way to much to give it any effort. fucking hated that shit. imovie maker on my iphone is ok i guess. working in a pinch.
365 is still the easiest for me to understand, but i think thats in part to i set out to learn it. and then i did and now everything else is dead to me. ahhahah

Its definitely easy to use, and pretty intuitive.

I only used the gopro software (Quik) to update my camera when i first got it and then never again.
