Ghostrider visits Arkies

It's unique, but it's not really THAT out of the norm around here. The bulk of our C-130s are all based at the Little Rock Air Force Base in North Little Rock. Seeing C-130s doing stuff is an every day occurrence in central Arkansas.

I've seen them doing touch and goes at the Little Rock National Airport about every other time I've flown out of there. Their Drop Zone for training is about 2 miles, as the crow (or C-130) flies, north east of my grandparent's farm. Low flying, window rattling, hum of the C-130 was very much a part of my formative years. Had some family friends that lived even closer, we cut hay for them when I was kid. Their house was on top of a hill, and had a partially buried, flat top, storm cellar, that was a perfect picnic spot. I spent several summer evenings after a long day in the hay field watching junk get pushed out the back of C-130s while drinking tea and devouring watermelons on top of their storm cellar.

I will neither confirm nor deny perhaps being partially responsible for the cattle guards/gates at the drop zone being upgraded, or that their were bragging rights among high school kids over who had collected the most parachutes. I have it on good authority that a Kawasaki Lakota and a Yamaha Warrior can easily outrun a Humvee. :homer::laughing:

Isn't half or more of the interstate freeway system designed for just this and then some?

Not that the shitty roads could take it anymore.
Yes. Just what % IDK. It's main purpose was for rapid military movement. And at certain intervals was to be straight with landing capabilities.

Fun times....

Drive that road every day for work.

The part I don’t understand is we have done really good small town airports around left over from WWII. Big enough for commercial jets to land. They claim it was for disaster relief in case of earthquake.

Lee is right about seeing those planes doing touch and goes all the time around here.

Funny watching it back up, with a guy sitting on the tailgate.

Does it unpitch the props for backup?
If it unpitches the props, does it also do this for "air brakes" while landing?

That's a really, really, low bar. Especially since they're all uparmored and overweight these days.

Bumpkin, high school kids, in the '90s, on ATVs, running from the military. We were basically the freaking A-Team! :smokin:
