I am looking into these and do not know anything.

I have been doing some reading and all I see is generic crap from dealers and nothing that really talks about reliability / maintenance.

These are cheaper than a SxS, and I am hoping are more simple and less crap to break on them.

How do they hold up?

I am looking at the 6 passenger ones that are lifted in the air with the bigger wheels.

I have never been in one, I know nothing and cannot find any real info on them.

Looking at ones like this

Found some sites that list all the speeds of different golf carets and they seem to be around 20-23 mph.

I thought they could do like 35-40

If they only do 20 then they wont work out, that sucks.

I thought I had something good to get into.

Most will be15-18 MPH stock. Some can go 20-25 turned up, but you do not want to adjust the governor above factory settings on a rental golf cart. With drum rear brakes only + suspension / steering designed to go 2-18 MPH smoothly, you can't write a waiver that would lawyer-proof your "malicious, negligent, (insert other incendiary terms here)" ass.

yeah, sadly I see that they are not going to work out.

I was excited for them as I know how popular they are down in South Beach, Miami but this area needs something that can go at least 40 mph

They look cool and would rent out well and cost 1/2 of a SxS but it is what it is.

Golf carts can be regeared to hit 35-37 pretty easy. Only problem is the stearing, handling, high center of gravity, and open seating. You think you have recoveries with flopped sxs's? My boss has a 2 seater gas powered Yamaha that hits ~40ish, it's is sketchy as fuck and he's spent a decent amount on it with no lift involved.

Well it seems my golf cart dreams are over.

I do not like the SxS's and every place has them so I was hoping they would work out.

Its a Golf Cart for Old men to spend the day in drinking high dollar Martinis. They are not in any hurry

The HOA I work in has two golf courses, golf carts are everywhere. Golf carts can be modified to go pretty fast, but they are not very stable around corners at speed. Then when you lift it you cause more issues. There have been three fatalities, and countless injuries involving golf carts. I’m actually surprised the HOA hasn’t tried to put limits on the GC mods

Just the thought of this reminds me of the putt putt cars aka Autopia over in tomorrow land at dismal land the tragic kingdom.

Dont think they were always called Autopia back when I worked in New Orleans Square it was something else as I recall.

Around here used prices are insane for what you are getting. I rented one for a week for a visit from an elderly relative a few weeks ago and the guy told me that there is more demand than carts this year due to changes in lifestyle. 5 years ago there were one or two around here, now there are easily 2 dozen.

A 25+ mph golf cart is not cheap, especially if you want to drive it with out white knuckles! I have an older one I built and it tops out at about 21 on flat ground and when I get it above that speed going down hill I feel like I am one soft ball sized rock away from being out of control. Also, if you think you will use it offroad (rough green at a golf course does not o****) then expect shit to ware out really fast!

Just get a sxs…. You will see why they are so popular! I just drank the coolaid and bought a Canam defender max 10..... Not even apples to oranges comparing my golf cart to my canam. However, for now I am keeping the golf cart for yard maintenance.

I've engine swapped a couple carts and can tell you for certain that the chassis, suspension, weight distribution, and brakes are not designed for speed or power. The weight distribution is heavily rearward so it's all about under-steer for safety on the course. I put a 60hp sled engine in a columbia and while it launched straight as an arrow, letting off the throttle above 40mph would result in instant death wobble. I took off from a stop sign a paved side street once with my girlfriend at the time and before I realized what was going on it was on it's side. I've never topped it out but 60mph wouldn't be a problem if the chassis could handle it. 40mph is sketchy enough. It is one of the few motorized things I have that I refuse to drive without a helmet or if I've had a single drink in the last 24 hours.

I later swapped a 414cc LCT into a Hyundai and have probably put 20,000 miles on it since the swap. Much more fun.

Why am I not surprised you've done either of those swaps.

I put the Vegas carts big block kit on my parents cart this summer. It’s a1992 Yamaha g2 with a small lift the old engine was under 10hp the new engine is a little over 20hp it goes pretty good now but as others have said the handling of golf carts are crap. I’ve adjusted the brakes as best I can it stops decent it’s only used for running gas to the dock and yard work. I ripped up and down my road a few times after the install it’s probably twice as fast now guessing around 30-35 mph . The nephews like that it lifts the front and my mom says it needs a roll bar now.

Sounds like the OP is going a different route but if anyone is looking at modding out a golf cart check out Vegas carts they sell some good kits.
