Since my shop used to be a dance studio they put the roll up doors in a stupid place.

I need to put a garage door into one of the end walls so I can also use the space effectively.

I have never bought or installed a garage door and don;t really know the significance of the difference between the residential and commercial doors.

I was pricing 10x10 doors and the difference between residential ($1500) and custom commercial was about double.

The standard commercial door has a few options (windows, insulation) ~$1800.

The custom commercial door has a lot more options (windows, riser that follows the roof pitch, better insulation, upgraded hinges and rollers).

I do like the custom commercial and options far more, but the difference of $1500 vs $1850 vs $2800 can buy a lot of disappointment lubricant (bourbon)

Given this is a personal shop is the value proposition here worth it to go custom commercial over standard commercial?

10x10 for $1800?!

I just got quotes for a 20x14 and it's right around $18,000

I’m no help but when I put my door in my shop I paid $5,100 for an insulated 16x10 residential door installed by a local place. That was right after covid nonsense and I was in a hurry so I’m sure I could have found a better deal

That's more or less what I currently have, but R10... ish.

I'm going to have to price Menards. I quickly played with settings and a 20x13, W1 rating, only r16 though, is around $5200.

The door I was quoted locally is a standard 2", R-20, wind struts on each panel, install and opener. "Low clearance" track as well. But yeah, I about shit too. Was figuring 5-7k area.

I'm waiting for other quotes, to include 18ft wide and only 12.5ft tall which makes it a standard track. (14ft ceiling)

FWIW, 10ft wide is tight for anything larger than a car/small truck. I have to fold in the mirrors on my flatbed truck and still only have ~9" on each side if I'm perfectly centered.

Have a 12x14ft wide at work and my Kenworth T880 box truck fits fine.

Right now my 71 F250 4x4 is the largest thing I have and it can fit thru an 8' if I am careful... and I don;t plan on going any bigger, so until I die I think the 10x10 is gonna be fine. For you it seems to be a different story so good luck!
