garage door lights

Anyone use something like this setup or a homemade version? working with the garage door up kills a lot of light. for the price this option doesnt seem that bad.

300 bucks for some led strips. Why not just buy the rolls of white led and wire it yourself. Or get a pack of these and just plug them in when the door is up? https://www.amazon.com/Barrina-Integrated-Fixture-Utility-Electric/dp/B01HBT3BVM?tag=91812054244-20 They are super light and give off huge amounts of light.

DO you have an engine stand that currently does NOT have a engine on it?

Step 1.Get 1/2 sheet of ply wood,

Step 2. Bolt it to the engine stand head.

Step 3 Buy .... 3 ..ish 4' LED lights, 1 Junction Box, 1 Switch and a sacrificial extension cord

Step 4. Screw lights to plywood, wire them together into the junction box, wire in switch, cut female end off cord, and make a plug to plug your new light stand into the wall

Step 5. enjoy your roll around lighting.

How big is your garage door?

I would get some 8' LED fixtures and mount them around the perimeter of the door , But even with the track height. That way the light is helpful door up or down.

I just have an old florescent light off an old desk and just leave slack in an extension cord so it moves with the door. free.99 and works great. Going to paint the place white this summer too to help reflect a little.

Funny I found this topic.

And yeah, I about shit at the price in OPs link.

We just got a new 7x16 garage door and I planned on doing something like this.

My idea was to wall mount the 12v regulator and run wire to the top of the opener to terminate at two springs.

The springs will contact copper plates mounted on the door and when the door goes up the lights can come on automatically (if power is left plugged in) or on demand by plugging them in.

Im thinking around $50 total.

Lights.

Buy a cord reel and take out the retract locking part. Mount led strips to the door and hard wire to the cord reel. Plug cord reel into outlet or hard wire into the garage opener light.

this is how a lot of electric chain hoists and gantry cranes are set up
others use a coil cord

still others use a flexible cable raceway but that's a rather high falootin' way of doing it

Seen it used on air hoist for paint booths

My garage is dark enough that I've gotten so I just throw a headlamp on when working in the garage, so I can crawl under and all over and not constantly be dragging a light along with me.

THIS!!!!!! I ordered an LED head strip and love it. It is great for us who have to still use a creeper.
