Full time wheeling & Travel

Yesterday was a great day. The kids did extra school work the day before so we had the whole day free. We drove about 45 minutes to North Myrtle Beach and hit the outlets and Broadway. We rode the big ferris wheel and had Japanese for dinner.

Parking the Mega Hauler was no big deal, just means parking in the back where it doesn’t hurt to take up 4 spaces lol.

I did top off the fuel while I was out and based on the math I averaged 10.75mpg

Today I went into a local branch of my bank in the area I’m in and wired a complete stranger a boat load of money. More than I’ve ever paid for anything besides a house.
I’m also giving a random person a wad of money to deliver a buggy I’ve never seen in person. We will so how this plays out.

Pics to come after delivery and everything is 100% final.

We had a fun educational adventure today. Touring the battleship was amazing. I really didn’t realize just how big the guns, and ship overall was.
Then we went downtown in Wilmington for lunch and some food coffee. We also saw where they are filming the show “the summer I turned pretty” on Amazon. That was pretty neat.

Parking and navigating the Mega Hauler really wasn’t a big deal. I did have to pay for 2 meters but no worries.

I offered $50k on the M&M and the guy would not budge. I don’t blame him, he really loved it. But this one worked out to be a whole lot cheaper. Another one of those off market deals. Seemed to work out like it was just meant to be. I always say God has a plan, and He seemed to work this out just right for me.
It has all the normal goodies. 60/14, RCV shafts, cutting brakes, full hydro, new coilovers, King air bumps, heated seats, lights everywhere, etc.

It also has this nice crate motor from Scoggins Dickey Performance with some goodies inside.

It has everything I wanted plus more to boot, and was within my budget. I couldn’t be happier. Sad things is I’ve never seen it in person. The deal was so good I bought it eight unseen. In fact, I bought it without even knowing what motor was in it. Dude sent the under hood pics after I bought it and then found the paperwork for the brand new motor. He was just a very well off guy who liked it, bought it, wheeled it and didn’t know much about it.
Super nice guy in Texas. When I’m out that way next year I hope to meet up with him.

I had it shipped to a friend in NC from Texas for $1400.

I swear I am not talking shit on your new rig, have the upper shock tabs that are giant lever arms ever torn out of the tube before? I know you don’t currently know but pay attention to that area if you were going to beat on it

Nah after zooming in and considering the stress in that area I see what you mean. I will certainly keep an eye on those areas during my regular bolt checks. I promise it will get beat on. Often.

The half ground welds, tack-tack-tack flatbar and bent in tabs because they were hacked back on too wide says yes
That or they were adjusted by someone with less skill than the chassis builder for the new shocks.

Good looking rig overall

Looks like there is room to re make the shock mount to wrap under the hoop tube and catch the chassis tube below it. Tieing them together should stop it from tear out.

Or mount another tube just inboard and span the two with the tabs.

New coilovers.

Wanna bet it had 2.5s with 1.5" tab spacing, and the new coilovers are 2.0s with a 1.25" spacing ?
That or ORI's, but there is a lot of patch/booger/etc around them where something else has happened first besides just pulling tabs in. I was mainly interested in the lever arm on the side of a tube moreso than the rest until I zoomed. Just ruins a weekend to rip a shock off a tube with it being totally preventable.

For sure.

My buggy is built like that and I've hucked it plenty and its been fine. knock on wood but I think Phil will be ok.

Well I made it to my buddy’s place. I’ll be mooch docking here in his yard for a long weekend. I love the buggy. It’s awesome.

Might try to wheel it tomorrow.

The wife did a little driving today. First time she’s ever pulled a trailer, ever, and it happens to be our home lol. She did good, I’m very proud of her.

It was nice to crash in my best friends yard for a long weekend. But now we are loaded up and moved on. We will be in our current campground the rest of the year. We will probably leave for a wheeling trip or two while here.

The buggy is getting a makeover soon. New seats and harnesses are on order. It’s being dropped off next week to have the front end redone and a few other things, and then getting the panels wrapped. Once all that is done I’ll probably head to Ivy Branch or Harlan with it. In the meantime, I’ll probably take it to a local place called Uwharrie near me. There’s literally nothing hard there but it’s worth going just to cruise around and see if anything else needs to be addressed.

That’s great on her getting some drive time. Always nice for a little seat swap as well as having an additional driver for long trips.

Good deal on the wife driving. :smokin: I could have used some relief with the motorhome, but that never happened.

Absolutely. If you can just give me a break for an hour or more from time to time on long drives it will make a big difference.
100% truth. My wife has no hesitation to pull a loaded bumper pull trailer but hasn’t tried the enclosed gooseneck yet.

Meanwhile some riding buddies wives haven’t even moved a trailer around the yard.

Shoot I think pulling a goose is even easier. Tell her she’s got this :cool2:
She always says “I know the theory so will be fine when I have to.” :)

Our problem is enclosed gooseneck + short bed (which I already busted the back glass out of once pulling out of our driveway) so she’s understandably hesitant there.
