Why would a manufacturer spec grease over oil in full float wheel bearings? 99% of full float axles use oil bath. Not trying to start a brand war.

Maybe to insure the hubs are lubed prior the oil circulating to those bearings.

Its not like they are sealed from the oil bath that the ring and pinion are having.

The only thing I can think of is extended service intervals.

Its so you don't burn em up in the first 50 miles before you get oil down the tubes.

Even semi float oil bath bearings come greased like timken set 10/ set 20.

14 bolts don’t use grease in the hubs. I’m talking sealed hubs with grease in them.

I greased mine at initial install.

Plenty of Dana 44s pre 70s used greased rear bearings. Before they removed the seals in the tubes.

Greased only just needs more maintenance that's all.

Guess it's whatever the engineer decides on the day.

Japs still use that closed knuckle design too...
