Best of luck. Kick its ass.
What's a normal number on that test and how low was yours?55 in September and my white blood cell count was in the basement...
Well, I'm no oncologist. I do know that too low is bad and that too high indicates possible infection. My platelet counts were also off, as well as my red blood cell count. Any more than that you'll have to ask the oncologist. I think it's not one of those things that needs to be monitored constantly unless there's signs of issues. What's a normal number on that test and how low was yours?
Is a white blood cell test a decent thing to have done once a year or so to keep tabs on potential cancer?
What's the test called?
Glad you caught it early and wish you the best with it.

News... not good, not bad. I have to spend the next month in the hospital for "induction therapy". It's a specialized treatment for my odball-assed leukemia.Basicly they're going to poision my bone marrow with arsenic trioxide to kill off all of the defective white blood cells. Then it's on to a maintenence dose for another six months or so and unless something goes squirley they say I'll be >CURED!< No remission, full on cured. What’s the word OP?????
Well we know whos going to become the #1 shitposter up in hereNews... not good, not bad. I have to spend the next month in the hospital for "induction therapy". Sitting in a hospital for a month being pumped full of a poision is really gonna suck, but at least the prognosis is good. If I can manage not to lose my mind in the meantime it should all be good.

Sorry to take so long for an update...
I'm home after a month in the hospital. I've got eight more months of consolidation therapy wth arsenic trioxide then they'll call me CURED. My leukemia is currently in remission, and my blood counts are pretty much normal. After the first of the year I'll have to do 5 days on / 5 days off of the arsenic trioxide, and 14 days on / 14 days off of the all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), the other drug used to treat this crap. My oncologist said if I made it thru the first two or three weeks without issues I'd be good, and that period was up two weeks ago. If there are any siginificant changes I'll post an update, but right now it looks like I kicked this s**t to the curb!
No hot nurses, this was oncology so they were mostly older. All of them were nice, just not particularly hot. Besides, most of the time I wasn't really up to paying much attention to what was going on around me other than eating and sleeping. I'm doing much better now, but still don't have much energy or strength. My oncologist says that I'll be doing a lot better after my break, and the outpatient treatments won't wipe me out nearly as much. Keeping my fingers crossed...You know, you spent a month in the hospital getting the shit kicked out of you, and not once did you post a pic of the hot nurses there.
I'm not sure if I should be excited it's working, or pissed you're holding out on us
Seriously, great news!
