Frontier VK swap

I clipped the pump ground in the passenger wheel well as it was the closest place I could access it without a ton of hassle.

For the wiring, on my jumper harness, you can see the plug labeled E2 with the blue and blue/yellow wires stuck up, the are spliced right to the FPCM from there
Thanks! Yea I was pretty sure you were using the wires from the E2 plug I just wanted to make sure those were the ECM 38 and 39.

Ill try to find the pump ground in that passenger wheel well.

Again thanks for the help I really do appreciate it!

Hey so did you wire in a capacitor (condenser) in your Flex fuel set up or did it seem to run fine without it?

I did not. All it is there for is to suppress potential electrical noise (would hear it in the speakers as a high pitched whine)

Well I’m making progress but got my first hiccup. Looks like two suction hoses I’ve ordered claim they are v8 pathfinder hoses but they are v6 ones. Where did you find your a/c suction hose? Thanks!

Yea I had the same problem. I ended up using the Titan hose + the Titan hard line since I could just pull it off the parts truck.

The only difference is where the junction is. On the Titan the cowl over hangs the engine bay quite a bit so the junction lines up with the edge of the cowl. On the frontier it ends up just out in the engine bay.

Thanks man! Thats what I was thinking of trying even though it doesn't look as clean. maybe one day ill find a pathfinder hose lol.

5.6 .jpg

Man Its been a ride and its getting close. On the first run I noticed the OD button lights up on the dash when I press the button but when I let go of the button the light goes off.

I am slowly digging through the online service manuals and it looks like the TCM should get the signal via bus from the cluster maybe? Any ideas where I should dig first?

I am going to add all my notes I have found while doing the swap once I get this all finished and have time to collect my thoughts!

Oh and in case anyone was wondering this is a 2012 flexfuel 5.6 I just like how the older engine cover looks.

The Frontier OD button is momentary while the Titan is a click on/click off type switch. In my truck, if I am up to a decent speed and hold the button in it'll kick it out of OD for as long as I hold the button.

I had read of someone swapping the button by they never posted where they had sourced the replacement.

The older cover does look better.

Can't use the one from the Titan?

Mine was damaged by some idiot taking the interior apart.

I may have been that idiot :shaking:

If you can't find one, there are 4 or 5 titans plus a few Armadas at my local yard. I can grab one the next time I'm there.

The problem there is the “Tow” button on the Titan mounts on the console and it’s a big button. On the frontier the “od off” mounts on the shifter itself and is much smaller.

Maybe they are not all this way but on my Titan it’s also a momentary switch. It closes a circuit to tell the TCM to go into tow mode and when it gets another signal it removes tow mode.

Somewhere in between, maybe the cluster on this Titan, holds the circuit going to the TCM energized until it receives another signal to cut it.

When I run a data stream with my scanner on the frontier watching the transmission it’s definitely getting a signal when the OD button is pressed. The signal of course stops when I release the OD button. I know I could wire in a ratchet relay but I’d like to figure out how it worked from the factory.

This is not some huge deal I’m just trying to get everything functioning. 👍

Just finished a VK swap (2011 Frontier Pro4x 135k and a 13 Armada 4x4 with 108k) I have a few "bugs" I'm hoping some of you could help with.
1. Tachometer is not working Speed is good but no tach.
2. No 4x4 function traction control light is on. Shifts into gear and moves but no 4x4. I swapped the Eng/Trans/Transfer/ Ecu/ BCM
There are some other small things but this is the biggest right now. Runs good, and if you get on it it will start strong, then hesitate.

Currently swapping a 04 titan motor into an 05 frontier. I’m having issues finding some of the wires for the titan connectors like some are just not on there. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance

04-06 won't have any VVTI wiring.

What exactly are you missing?

Okay for example on the titan E2 plug I’m missing 5 of the wires. 1 and 2, 8, 14 and 15. I don’t know if im just looking over them or if I’m just being an idiot. I feel like I’ve gone through it 6 times.

The wiring stuff I posted here will most likely not match up with what you have. Seems Nissan changed stuff around every few years.

When figuring out what I needed, I pulled the FSM pages from here

And paid the few bucks for wiring diagrams from here

Thanks man I’ll keep trying
