Going to buy part of a cow , bout 200 lbs and I’m going to get a small freezer to store it in .

Looking for a temp
Monitor for the freezer so I will get an audible alarm and maybe a text message or something if the temp inside gets warm

Reccomend?

I'll be following this thread, but just wanted to throw this out there
... if you freeze a shotglass full of water and then place a coin on top of the ice, if you ever lose power / have an issue, the coin will fall to the bottom of the glass and it will tell the tale everytime ... even if it refreezes

fwiw, my oldschool neighbor taught me that trick last year and I was struck dumb(er) ... simple and effective

ETA;
chest freezers handle power outages better,
... the older the better, in my opinion

Any NEW freezer has an alarm if the door is left open or the freezer isn't colder than 32F.

Put the probe in a water bottle 2/3 filled with Vodka or some other cheap liquor.
Set the temp you want.

I only have a cheap freezer thermometer. I was home both times mine (separate freezers) broke.

Edit: the WiFi version would (probably) send you a message if the temp wasn't correct.

I have a temp switch that turns a light bulb on from the days when I had chickens and ducks, goats etc.

Its temperature adjusted with a little knob.

That could do the same with the probe in the freezer compartment.

It could trigger a light or a buzzer etc.

If you want it PM me.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread for sure.

Our meat freezer is in one of the out buildings. We don’t go out there daily so the freezer could die and we wouldn’t know it. Our last freezer (Whirlpool Freezerator) failed, but I discovered it in time to move what meat we had in there into the house freezer and the Engel. I discovered later that the Freezerator was known to have problems :frown:

I have a Uzoli brand with 3 temp monitors. I have one in each chest freezer and one in the fridge freezer.
Can set the temp you want it to alarm at. Just an audible alarm, no wifi connection.

I use this companies temp monitors, work well.

I'm using this in mine. Works good. Wifi and bluetooth.

Smart Wireless Temperature /... Amazon.com

This is what I use. My biggest fear is losing a quarter beef at any given time.
Our meat freezer is in a sea container about thirty feet from the house. Mrs “She shed” is next door about five feet away. I put a wifi extender in her shed so she can work out there if she wants to. It sounds like this gadget may work?

Yeah. It might work. The base station plugs into your modem. I get alerts when I leave the fridge open too long (temp gets too warm and pings the phone) while restocking the shelves. My deep freeze is in the garage on the far side of the house.

I actually have a lock on the upright freezer so I don’t accidentally open it somehow. The temp sensor is my backup plan and mostly for when we aren’t home, which is rare.

I guess I’ll get a bundle (base & two monitors) from Amazon and see if it works with our set up. Worst case is if it doesn’t work (signal issues) I can send it back.

Thanks for the info/link

The one I posted has good range. The hub is in my detached garage, and one of the sensors monitors the basement temp in the house.

I use the Govee as well. Been working well for the year or two I’ve been using them. Can monitor them with the phone app also.

I also use the YoLink stuff for water leak sensors and a remote control.

It uses a hub that communicates to the sensors over LoRa, supposed to be 1/4 mile range.

I’ve got one of these on my big upright freezer in the basement. It’s sensitive enough that it’ll alert my phone if someone opens the door to get something out. It’s on the expensive side but still cheaper than losing what’s in the freezer if it dies.

Edit: didn’t read second post or others

How about you just take a small Tupperware… freeze some water in it. Place a penny on top of the frozen water.

If the penny ends up frozen in the bottom of the ice block you know the power went out and your freezer thawed at some point in time

I have a frozen water bottle with a lead ball on top (son was into black powder guns) in all the freezers

I have the YoLink water sensors and robot valve

Had no idea they had temp Sensors to go with it .

I Got the YoLink robot valve after the neighbors had a toilet supply line burst in the bathroom while they were at work . Did a lot of damage to their house .

If y’all don’t have a water sensor shutoff . You shouid get one ,
$300 is cheap for having something to cut off the water if the sensors detect a leak

This is an early warning PROACTIVE solution to save the $1000 of food in the freezer, not a 'come back from vacation where an alarm would be useless anyways' REACTIVE solution.

I can’t say any of my family would come over and lug the old freezer out and get me a new one while I’m in vacation 😆

How is this not reactive??
