I don't do music except the occasional radio station while driving . Is there a free app or something where ai can just type in "lake music" or "bluegrass" and get a decent mix?

Because I just spent $100 on a blutooth speaker and want to use it

If you already have Prime / Alexa, then you can request all sorts of streaming music off of that app.....

I use Pandora every day since it got off the ground. Don't mind the commercials - beats terrestrial radio by hundreds of miles. My Thumbprint station (all my thumbs up songs) can get repetitive, but it's all the songs I like so it doesn't bother me. Harder to find new music that way, so sometimes I type in an artist and start liking other songs. As said, you can type in a genre or an artist and it will start playing all things the algorithm deems as close enough.

Agree, I could not get used to spotify for music but use it for podcasting (excels at that).

Is I-heart-radio still a thing?

Spotify or Amazon music both work acceptably well for what they are. A few commercials, you can usually listen to what you want within a song or two and generally most stuff isn't behind the paywall.

The Joe Rogan Green Room playlist on Spotify has been pretty good to hear a completely random music set of things I like. :flipoff2:

Amazon music if you already have Prime.
I had XM off and on for a long time
I had Pandora, paid has a better selection that free.
Spotify, free and paid, didn't like the app. It has much better sound than XM or Pandora
Amazon, app isn't any better, good sound and I haven't heard a commercial yet. I have Prime

just run adblock bro
I've never seen a single youtube ad
Youtube music is different than Youtube, I don't know if ad block works. Youtube music is capable of playing in the background, with a subscription at least.

dunno what browser you're running but I can even play a couple videos at the same time in firefox, doesn't matter if the tab's on screen or not

Go to youtube, find song, copy url.
Go to youtube->mp3 converter site, paste url, download.
Make your custom CD.
$0.

Been using pandora for 20 years.

tried to switch to spotify because artists make more money, but could not get used to is. Different mix, or blend.

Went back to pandora.

I think Pandora is owned by sirrius xm now, which I absolutely hate so I am a hypocrite
Artists make jack shit off of Spotify.

IHeart is ok, but if you want a specific song, it will never play it, plays others like it but not the one you want

Pandoro plays the same 30 or 40 songs which is annoying.

I have 500 or 600 mp3s on my phone. I put that to play.

Most of the services have free versions. Just have to put up with commercials.

I pay for YouTube and get YouTube music included in the cost. I hate commercials.

Been using LiveOne since it was Slacker way back when. I miss Slacker.

It went from Slacker to Live x Live powered by Slacker, to Live x Live, to LiveOne. I got locked in to $3.99/month for unlimited skips and no ads. Free limited you to I think 6 skips an hour and had ads. That's been years ago though, I'm not sure what the free version is like now.

I tried pretty much everything available at the time. Slacker's algorithm just flat or worked better than everyone else. I used Pandora longer than any of the others, but it seemed no matter how often I banned Dave Matthews, they'd inevitably play a Dave Matthews song. If I ban an artist I don't want to hear that artist. Their suggestions for new artists were often way off the mark too.

LiveOne has been pretty good. For $9.99/month you can get offline music, download playlists for when you don't have signal.

I'm a little behind the times. Still mostly listen to am radio when driving
As mentioned, Pandora and Spotify . They both have ads unless you pay. I use Spotify and pay the $11 because I hate, HATE!! ads. I only generate a play list were you can like or unlike songs. It works for me.

I think Pandora is more intuitive. I used them initially for free. I liked the way they let you make genre stations and you just click on the genre icon you want.

As I think was mentioned, they do repeat.
