Ford 2.7 vs 3.5 vs. 5.0

It's probably buried in here, but what real world mileage are the 2.7's getting? Crew cab 4x 6.5' bed if anyone's got one.

15mpg for me.. I have about 1k lbs of extra weight between tools, topper, rack and I drive kinda quick. Tuned on 315’s too.

I’d say 18 mpg for a normal person
Dad's got his stock, but ~33'x10's on his (damned if i know the numbered sizing). Dropped from low 20's to 15-18 depending on speed. not great

I priced out a XL crew cab 5.0l 6.5ft bed f150 on fords site yesterday. Was over 50k and still had steel wheels, thats crazy

Stickers have always been high the difference is now you have to pay sticker or above to get anything desirable. When I got my trucks in 2020 i was at roughly 20% off sticker. Sticker of 65k paid 52k.

I used to have a company supplied X-plan pricing. In 14 I got a brand new truck for $10,000 off sticker. It’d be nice to do that one more time.

My 18 5.0 is showing 18.6 around town and on some back roads. Also a couple of burnouts on the way to the enhanced inspection station. My 03 tundra does 13-14 driving similarly but it has 285/70/17s and 4.56 gears.

My 2018 5.0 passed the enhanced inspection to get a reconstructed title. It drives nice and has been averaging 18.5 mpg in mixed driving.

Interesting thread is interesting. Only have experience on one of these platforms from the car perspective (personally). Have tuned others but don't know real world how they perform on the daily....

As another random data point:

My '13 Mustang GT (6R80)- Boss exhaust cams, Boss intake, 85mm Accufab TB/JLT cold air and 4.10's nets about 22-23mpg still on a rich tune.

Stock on 3.15's it was up near 27-28mpg.

I do drive like a pussy n' all :flipoff2:

edit: e10ish type tune...

Not bad I have a 4.0 Tacoma that went from 19 to about 13mpg with the same size tire. I’d say the 2.7 has 2x the power as the 4.0 taco atleast at the elevation I’m at so I’m impressed

Sorry for not multi-quoting. Also have a '15 Taco with the 4.0. Its power, efficiency, and mileage is abysmal and pathetic compared to the Ford anything, can speak to from personal experience. It may outlast the Fords though, time will tell :emb:

I don't get how some of you guys will talk about milage and lifts/bigger tires in the same posts. Not that I'm against lifts and bigger tires, but I think you can't care about both at the same time.
The mileage thing irritates TF out of me. I tell people I get 9 mpg out of one (or two) rig, this whole place calls bullshit. I tell everyone the wife’s car gets 20 mpg the whole place calls bull shit.

I’m not asking you MF’s how many mpg my cars get. I’m sharing with you my findings because I actually check and hand calculate. Or my work truck I can show the spreadsheet. All disbelief as if I have something to gain by telling a story.

I just bought stock size dynpro at3s. I will run the Icon stuff with 1 inch of lift. At that height it makes for good ride, handling, articulation, etc. Lots of fun on high speed dirt roads.

I have 250,000 miles on a 3.5 at this point. Averaging ~16mpg mixed city/highway.

I thought you said the wife’s xterra got something crazy like 23 mpg. Either way, it doesn’t matter what people think about your mpg.

I said 22, I’ve gotten 22 in it, and she normally gets 20 in it. I know it’s hard to fathom city dweller, but 100% of our driving is highway. We don’t live anywhere near a city. On a normal day we both encounter 1 traffic light.

I have a 2011 3.5 with 203,000 on it and lifetime average since I bought it (bought with 52k and reset trip b when I bought it) is about 15.6mpg. Leveled with 33x12.50 Toyo M/Ts on it pretty much it's whole life.

Tow my 20ft aluminum John boat boat with it a few times a year and ranges anywhere from 10-13mpg.

Love the 6 speed.

My brother has a 2017 5.0 6spd and it gets about the same mileage and is set up pretty much like mine too. It hunts gears a lot when towing where my Ecoboost stays in 5th pretty much the whole time with 6th gear turned off. I must be getting old but the Ecoboost is quieter too :lmao:

I live on a dirt road off a dirt road on a small mountain in Pennsylvania. I am pretty far from the city.

You don't have to lie to kick it bro! :flipoff2:

I don't care that much about milage, it is what it is. All my stuff is multi use, so I usually take a hit at the expense of having something useful to me.

My samurai got 3.76 mpg last trip out

Doesn't mean shit if you don't know what I'm doing.

Also, I have to wonder how much larger tires throw the lie o meter off vs actually hurting milage. We went from 275/65r18s to 275/70r18s. I figured sticking with the same width wouldn't effect it much, but it seemed to drop ~1.5-2 mpg. Maybe going from P rated to E rated? I have yet to hand calculate, because I don't care that much.

My computer is still on within .2 gallons every tank even with the larger tires.

I went from a 275/60R20 SL to a 285/70R17 E tire on my Chevy. Figure I lost around 1 mpg mainly due to the weight increase.

For those of you with an F-150 rockauto.com has rear Rancho 7000 mono tube shocks on close out for $27 eachThey are similar to bilsteins. I bought two of the Rancho 7000s and installed them a week ago. They seem to work pretty good but I am not a shock snob. Should fit 15-19 F-150 4x4

Aren't those almost the same size? Weight might be similar also with the smaller wheels?

I always figured width was the biggest killer with small size increases, but I guess I don't know.

I know tire compound makes a noticeable difference, switching to snow tires (same size tire) drops milage by 1MPG with no other differences.

It occurs to me that I got shockingly good mileage in my Toyota 3.0 when I worked at Yellowstone. Are you at elevation?

snow tires and winter gas knocked my Prius down from 46 to 40
