Ford 2.7 vs 3.5 vs. 5.0

You got me all excited. My wife (and sometimes I) do a farmers market and absolutely need a 6.5’ bed and a true crew cab for the 2 boys. Our 2010 tundra is good, getting up there in miles, but still runs great. But I long for a true crew cab not ours (crew max is a huge cab…. But again only available in 5.5’ — unless I buy a brand new twin turbo, which I won’t do)

All new trucks are fucking amazing in almost every way.

Except the fact that all those gizmos are guaranteed to shit the bed at least twice. My '22 3.5 EB has been in thrice: once for the power module crashing the center stack, once for the bed camera shitting the bed and once for an exhaust rattle (loose welding bb bouncing around). In general for new vehicles, the CANBUS (which at least makes intermittent wiring diagnosis easy since it logs errors) is a small network in your vehicle, all the different electro-mechanical systems to pass EPA emissions requirements, the TV screens everywhere, it's likely we've gone backwards and none of these will last much beyond 200k miles.

But... That fucking thing is a hill-slaying Cadillac. Towing my Jeep and a bunch of camping shit at 55mph up the side of an 8,000' mountain with 10% grades, zero problems. 18mpg almost all city driving despite my wife's lead-foot (her daily). Beyond comfortable interior. Rides like a cloud. Ford really spent the time to design this one nicely and you can tell it was a priority. We got employee pricing from a friend and ordered it, but it definitely feels like its $50k MSRP.
 
Yeah. I’m a Ford hater to the core. But this 2020 suburban we have is leaving me uninspired.

I keep coming back to the f150 EB. My friend has a 2.7 with like 240k and no issues at all.

We have a 15, 18, 22 and 23 chevy truck at work.

I don't mind the 18 too bad, but the 22 and 23 just feel off. Reminds me of like when a cheap Chinese company trying to make an American truck. I can't imagine someone actually buying one if they have driven a ford or ram.
 
Finally got the 35" Nitto Recons on with Method 318s.

Mines in 4" lift and 35s no steps. Yes ditch the steps. Makes it look way better. I ran them on mine til my kids were tall enough to climb in.
 
I would never buy a Ford, but I had numerous long term rentals for work, most of the time they were F-150’s 3.5 or 5.0. The 10-Speed 5.0’s in Sport mode was awesome. Perfect shifts huge power. Over all nice trucks.

I traded rental life in for mileage reimbursement, and an $8,500 06’ Tundra I bought years ago. 16-17.5mpg, and I profit about $1,000 a month. Truck just rolled 325k miles, fully stock haven’t touched the engine or trans. Fits the family well, tows the golf cart (RZR) and pop up trailer at 75mph.

I just can’t see buying a 50-70k truck to daily drive.

I got her detailed when she rolled 300k

Those are phenomenal trucks, to about 300k, you're on borrowed time.

Have records for the belt and pump?
 
I've always wanted a gen 1 tundra, but the styling inside and out is terrible. Never found a decent enough deal to make it worth it.

They're a great 3/8 ton truck.:laughing:

Also, what is your work going to think when you break down in bfe on the clock and they find out your truck has over 350k miles?
 
Here's my 2015, 3.5L. I wanted a 15-16 for the aluminum body and the 6 speed. There was nothing available in the private market at the time, but I round this platinum at a dealer. $10K more than I thought I'd spend but I really like it.

I got the standard manifold leak with a few broken studs about 6 months after I bought it. Coincidentally it was around 9 months after the new ford manifolds came out. I bought a set of those, polished the internal barnacles off, ceramic coated them, and it has been great since. We'll see how that goes.

I've put 20K on it and I still love it. It suits my use of a DD very well. Haul the kids to school in the morning, fill the bed with random stuff going to and from the shop. Commute to the real job. It has gotten just over 16 MPG in the time I've had it, but several months of that was with the leaking manifolds. Since that repair I think it has been a little over 17 (all hand calculated). It has 305/55R20s on it, which I'm not a fan of, and probably aren't helping my mileage. I figured they would have worn out by now, but apparently Nittos wear like iron. Probably by fall they'll be replaced with something narrower but maybe a touch bigger than stock.

I just bought a 20', 10K car hauler for my jeep and my side business. Towed it home at 80 on the highway and was getting 12-13 on the bullshit meter, so probably 1-2 less when calculated. Looking forward to hitching up the jeep and hauling it to some fun before summer is out. I might explore adding some airbags to it.

I did all new timing components and water pump at 270k, I’m pretty sure they were original. The 2UZ’s are pretty easy to work on. Only other thing I’ve done is replace the steering rack and alternator at 260k, it was leaking and the boots were gone.

My coil packs are cracked and puffed, but they aren’t misfiring, I noticed it when I put new plugs in at about 240k.

Let’s just say I have to 200 mile AAA plan lol.

Well my saving grace is my Director has an 09’ 4Runner with a 2UZ as well and he has 450k on it.

The styling is for sure not all there. 100% design stollen off a 2000ish F150, and plastic things are starting to fail, but Toyota has decent parts availability for their older vehicles.

I swapped my chrome ones for factory painted ones I found on marketplace for $100. Resold the chrome ones for $50 (one side was scratched to shit)
