What's new

FNLC (kinda early edition)

In, fuck this week too.
I'm sore as fuck, and feel like I haven't slept.
Going to burn something for dinner.

Also grabbed some new casters at Hobo Freight for my Hobo Freight cherry picker. 5" plastic this time. Maybe they'll roll. Probably crack after a couple uses, but I'm tired of fighting bent casters.
mine's set up with some big casters real cool, you take a piece of 3/8" plate and weld it on the "top" of the tube leg, hanging out past the end, then you put the caster under that plate, so that its flange is flush with the top of the tube, instead of being underneath the tube and banging into everything

I’ll be following along. You seem to have the absolute worst luck with tdis.

I’m betting it’s injection issues.
Maybe. it's been smoking a little more than usual but not a huge amount
I'll bring with the stuff to swap the injectors on the side of the road, if it starts getting sassy it'll get that did to it

oh the "bad luck" is mostly because I refuse to spend money
and tend to ignore things that are making noises for longer than I should
and the fact that they're VW cars

1974 military bridgeport mill. I gotta shave 1/4" off where the shifter bolts to. apparently the 01up chevy tops are 1/4 taller than the older dodge and chevy square tops. someone swapped the top to the newer style but used a dodge shift tower so its jumping out of the groove if you shift too hard.
ah cool, small area to cover
if it were the whole top of the case instead of just the shift tower I'd be thinking about swivelling the head around to do it in a few goes, avoid it coming out curved from the table rocking on the knee
figured that one out trying to flycut a cylinder head

Thinking about it the taller tower with a longer shifter (below the pivot ball) would be a sporty short-throw shifter, if you were to extend the shifter rod rather than cutting down the cover.

Might do that. Might not. I can actually use the ground clearance under mine.

I have to say I was a little impressed with BK's cheesesticks. They are even better than the ones LJS had years ago. They suck once they get cool, but most mozzarella does.

dumped in the can of studebaker-marked STP
swapped the injectors just because, while bleeding the lines it sounded like one cylinder was down on squeeze but a little bit of 'redline for a good time' got it running smooth again
gonna drive it a little and then unplug the fuel solenoid
if it doesn't sound lumpy then I'll know it was prolly a collapsed lifter making the low compression

Sticking the bit driver into the head bolts and the heads are full of grease
made out of metal, ultra-fine particulate, no flakes at all
How about that, bet the crank's undersize, we'll know soon
was noticing a lot of sand in the oil filter for a long time... Guess I shoulda put a filter on the road draft tube when I first noticed that it was a problem.
Probably shoulda made a thread a couple years ago rather than shitting up every snlc with its latest trouble

ah well
