Our priorities are fucked as a species, this is some cool shit. Did I miss it completely? If not, how is this not the global headline for a few days?

Sums up the modern world pretty well :homer:

This doesn't always apply.

We've seen this before. This is expected R&D for a space company. We just saw a manned private flight successfully completed, so this is no big deal. Nobody is doing anything.

I'm not seeing why this video is significant. Explain?

Ok, it's kind of like I said. I'm glad it's happening and I'm happy the Unabomber brought the news, but there's no reason to down humanity over it.

This is not really even a test flight, it's more of a confirmation flight. I mean, no barriers were broken. They just confirmed the Raptor engine can lift this particular section of a larger spaceship. It's cool, but....

Guess you're enjoying all the Nigerians in the news. There was a fucking funeral of a Nigerian on tv for 3 hours the other day.

Priorities is all I'm saying.

It's showing off how bad ass that engine is .. as much as they could. I don't believe they had clearance from the FAA to go higher so Elon said F it ... we'll put up and then down over there.

That engine lifted that section alone. The big one will have 5 more of those engines on it

Article says the Super Heavy will have 31 one of them, haha. That's pretty crazy.

That is just badass.
I couldn't agree more with TK our priorities are screwed.

This grain silo launch attempt successfully lifted a silo to 500' and returned it to the ground without damage.

Only other attempt this week went zero feet high while completely fucking up the silos & surrounding area.

mostly impressed they could manage the landing to boot, anybody can light a bomb under a can and shoot it up in the air

If all you watch is main steam media, yeah, we're probably fucked and you're probably part of the problem. But, there's no shortage of coverage for SpaceX.

Personally, the idea of going into space or to Mars scare the fuck out of me. But, I find it very refreshing to a private company investing so heavily in it and making huge leaps forward at that. NASA has been stagnant for years. Feds told Elon he couldn't do it, he said fuck it and did it anyway. The guy has faults and I'm not a huge fan of how he exploits our government for money, but I can't really blame him for it anyway. The guy has probably done more to push humanity forward technologically in the last 20 years than anyone has since the industrial age.

Is the populace at large excited about it? Probably not. Doesn't mean there isn't support or coverage, you just won't find it in the MSM or places like Pirate. Might have to step out the comfort zone a bit and look on more liberal leaning places like Reddit for more coverage. People who are into science and tech tend not to be conservatives.

I don't know that 'NASA has been stagnant for years'. They have done wildly successful Mars rovers, and just launched Perseverance last week.

There are robots on Mars, put there by NASA. Those robots have vastly exceeded their nominal capabilities.

IBB just had a thread about the Manned splashdown a couple days ago.

I dispute that 'people into science and tech tend not to be conservatives.' Lefties are into meme science fads, but tend to not understand the science of it. If you take a sample of 1,000 people and ask them to explain the basics of Thermodynamics, the conservatives will tend to answer more accurately (is my opinion and observation).

Engineering is vastly more conservative than lefty.

Musk is trying to become the world's largest government contractor. This makes him no different than Boeing, Northrup, General Dynamics, BAE, or a bunch of other companies. What I don't like Musk is the reddit dick-sucking of the guy.

Am I reading it right? Dimensions- 160' x 30'?
394' with the payload stage on top?

Eeh. Nice RC cars, and a difficult technical achievement, but I'm afraid I'm with the unwashed masses in finding that to be an undewhelming spectacle.

The Apollo programs had the entire nation on the edge of their seats because they were heros braving the void, men who could die expanding human frontiers. NASA does not understand this, and then wonders why no one cares about their newest drone.

If all that the human space program ever accomplishes is sending research instruments to other planets, it will have been a failure. We have to send humans, and at this point we can barely put men in orbit (and NASA can't at all).

Waitaminnit...I thought you couldn't shut up about the truck? Or was that just troll...so hard to tell.

Why can't you distinguish between my like of the basic concepts of the Cyber Truck, and my apathy about Musk? I even said so in that thread.

I'd like someone in this redneck heaven to explain this to me.

Why, like a bunch of women, can't you distinguish the facts from personality?

Oh, sorry, you slobbin on the truck is different than Reddit slobbin on Musk. I see.

It's not news because you're getting scammed. 5 trillion sucked out of our pockets to a bunch of jews, banks, and corporations. 6 months of coronavirus propaganda while the banking system collapsed again for the second time in 10 years and bailed itself out with your money.

For 5 trillion, I want a fucking colony on Mars.

There's a reason space and expanding the human race isn't our "future" anymore. We are supposed to be hopeless with no aspirations beyond being a consumer slave while we bow to our woke communist overlords.

Godspeed Elon Musk. :smokin: I hope he finds and good group of people to colonize Mars without the rest of us.

Seriously? You always seem to blur the line by leaving a snail trail of putrid smegma in every thread that you don't shit in. If you haven't noticed most of the folks here don't speak multiple personalities, chose one and stick with it:flipoff2:

Because the more you say the more people tend to discredit you. That should be taken to heart man, the end.
