Flying is a miserable experience nowadays

Well finally. Just flew yesterday lol.

Last Thursday- whole family walked through the Omaha airport boarded the plane and flew to at louis to Orlando without wearing masks. Only put them on for a moment at the security checkpoint and when scanning boarding tickets. In the way back same thing from Orlando to denver. On the sw flight from denver to Omaha we got told to wear a mask.

Fuck em.


Oh yeah- flight was delayed on the way down and on the way back. Sad.
 
Literally happened while I was on a flight, should be interesting to see how it pans out. I HAD booked this around today being the day it ended, but they took that away the other day.

All just ridiculous. Hopefully they finally say enough is enough!
 
what about testing before flying, still a thing? i havent flown in a long time and it was not a consideration while the nonsense going on
 
so....at the airport:
No masks required in airport
At check in, delta ticket agent said it was optional and please enjoy the freedom of choice
A family was at the counter double checking and a 5 or 6 year old kid said thanks you, I'm glad I don't have to wear a snot rag, everyone was dying from laughter except for the two elderly ladies with 2 mask and face shields.
At security, one guy was asking why I wasn't wearing a mask, said the mandate was found to be government over-reach. He was really nervous, kinda of pacing in circles. Asked if he was ok, he said that he's a doctor and this is going to kill people. My response was "I'm glad your not my doctor". Before TSA pulled him aside he was literally pleading with people to put masks on, I asked what was his concern, as the airlines at the start of this stupidity said flying was the safest travel option, as they've installed Hepa filters. He was asked by TSA to please stop scaring people.
At ticket counter, young punk with purple hair was telling everyone (including the gate agent) around him that if you're sitting next to me, I'm going to demand that you wear a mask and if you don't, he was going to get everyone's information and sue them. This continued for about 10 minutes and when 5-0 showed up to calm him down, he laid into them for being abusive and if they tried to remove him, he'd get them fired for fascism, yes fascism. He was yelling (while crying) "stop, you're being racist toward a gay man" as they walked him out.
At the gate, the pilot for the flight gave a annoucement before boarding basically saying if you want to wear a mask, please do, but don't make it uncomfortable for those who choose not too by badgering them about this.
Everyone at the gate applauded this...
now as I drink my Bloody Mary, I see this

It's funny how they just drop the mandate the first second they can. What happened to the whole following the science bit?

Could the science have never really been there? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.

Now get rid of the covid test within 24 hours of a international flight coming in to the states. That's a fucking nightmare to pull off.

I think this admin is so happy when the courts strike this stuff down. It lets them go see we tried but the conservatives on the courts stopped it.

They will never admit they were wrong so they will never end this stuff on their own.

There is that. But I honestly think it also brings the panic. They need every excuse they can use to bring back the mass mail in voting and drop boxes on every corner. So they can cheat.

Flew Denver to Houston and later back on United over the weekend. No masks, slight take off delay on return trip, other than that no issues. YMMV:flipoff2:
 
Worst thing I had happen recently is two days ago on an American flight from ORD to EWR, the turbulence was bad enough that they didn't do beverage service. I've flown a shitload and it was pretty gnarly, can't complain too much, at least they completed the flight and beat the arrival by a few minutes.

Besides that it's been less than 15 minutes from checking in to sitting at the bar, nice seats, good service, and on time everywhere over the last month. I don't try to be cheap about it though.

Had some training for work in Indianapolis over the weekend and because they are travel sucks I chose the earliest flight back home and the earliest flight there so in case I got fucked up I had the rest of the day to figure something out.

Got out there went to bed Saturday night had my alarm set for 4 o’clock Sunday morning so I can get to the airport in time to catch my flight upon waking up I get a notification that my flight has been canceled. Now keep in mind I’ve already got an Uber scheduled to get me to the airport and I’ve got a pay for and have to check out of the hotel by 11. So I get in the Uber go to the airport and see what’s going on and how I’m gonna get home I figure I’ll catch a later flight.

Fuck. No.

They couldn’t find any way to get me to Omaha on Sunday so I have to wait till Monday checking Expedia Travelocity and stuff there’s nothing to get me home but I can figure out.

So I ended up here

Made them send me to Tampa. Stayed at my parents condo for the day, took a swim and ate some seafood. Money wise was a wash for an extra flight vs another hotel. Got back today. If I was going to be stuck in a town it wasn’t going to be Indy. That place sucks ass

I did that for years, don't miss it all. Well except the flyer miles. I think I went a decade or two without buying any tickets cash. Just dropped $3200 for two round trips to Hawaii...ugg

Montana club is good, $15 for a really good burger, mostly steak and seafood place.
Desoto grill, local BBQ
Casa Mexico - good mexican
Tamarack brewery in Lakeside - 20 minute drive for good beer and food.
Mooses saloon for beer and pizza, it's a local experience and mediocre pizza
