so here locally a friend is getting rid of this FJ40, he has given absolutely zero info because i feel it is a sale his wife said just get it gone please....:shocked::shocked::beer::beer: the pictures he sent are like i dont want to sell but here it is.

from what i can tell its mid 70s what else can you guys tell me from the pics.. i found one hole in the floor on passenger side. no biggie weld in steel...

little more info from seller, sounds like floors a shot. not the end of the world, just makes doing shit easier in the realms of one ton axles and such. hahahaha or where ever things progress

Complete 40s are getting harder to find and going up in price, especially in bone stock uncut form like this one. If this engine and trans are still salvageable, it's worth way more to keep it intact and original.

I guess it all depends on your goals for it. Tons, LS, Atlas, fodeez, chop up the body, etc?

And how damn cheap can you get it for?

these are all good questions.... so the tub has square tube bracing and holding it square. you see it in the door openings. and i think i read a text that the rear floor is gone.

goals thats a good one. one thought is LS drive train swap with super duty axles. i mean all that could be done cheaper than rebuilding a LC axle these days. ahhahahaahah

but if i had guess my thought would be super duty axles and spring over. but then this starts a slippery slope. fuck bringing it home starts a freaking slippery slope. :lmao::lmao::lmao::beer::beer::beer::beer:

one main goal would be auto so other people can drive it. but what auto would go behind the 2f engine with out a expensive adapter. such a strait down slope into oblivion it is... amazing how far one could go.

but then leaving it factory and 32 inch 33 tires these things look cool and are a ton of fun to drive and kick the vents open and enjoy the open road too

Floors are easy.

If the engine and trans are rebuildable cores, I could see this pulling close to $10k for someone to restore. And if you want it to build a wheeler I wouldn't pay full market price, whatever that may be.

But if you can get it for $1-2k, sure, build it and thrash it. It all depends on the money.

I helped CreeperSleeper with a couple of his 40s and these aren't easy to build into wheelers without going custom fab on everything.

yes they bring the suck if you want a great wheeler. you hit the nail on the head, custom fab everything... we will see where i end up.

none of floorplans or body rot really scares me. these thing have lots of flat panels that are easy to replicate to your own flavor with with ever is handy.
it will really depend on the level of rot and ruin as to what i would use it for. bare min i would like a run about...

I still think that the biggest factor is the price.

Does your friend think it's a a valuable rebuilder, and wants $7-10k?

Or is this a $1-2k "get it out of here" deal?

I've got an FJ40 roller that has had the fuel tank moved. Hard top and doors, most glass intact. I'd toyed with the idea of selling as it's probably worth 5k the way it sits (body is better from a rust perspective than what you posted) but I know if I do I'll never be able to afford another one. Just need to make some time to start working on it.

I would fix the floors and drive it as is. If you want to wheel it, slap some stock size muds on it, an 8274, maybe a lunchbox locker and go have fun wheeling easy to moderate shit. Keep the buggy for doing dumb shit, and this for putzing around town and or fucking around in the woods on easy shit. Sell for a profit when you get bored with it.

my .02

Honestly it would be cool to just drive around as it, don't you have 2 built rigs already? I'd probably get it running and driving, have some fun cruising it and ya, sell it online for a good chunk.

i am going this weekend to give it a look and see whats up. and i totally agree no since in two buggy's, but would like one to go beat around town, moderate trails. there is something super cool about a super basic rig.

There ya go.

Get it driving, maybe do a spring over at most, throw on some skinny 33s, and have a fun old woods cruising rig.

so i looked it over this weekend and i have decided to pass on this fj40. my 2 cents on this thing are it is rusted beyond my level of dedication to fix.
good things it does have going for it. seats have been redone. new upholstery but i feel because it is in a 40 acre field the mice will get in there soon if they have not all ready and ruin them,. its dec 1973 so thats good.
the bad. entire floor plan is gone. hard top pretty much shot, and for some reason someone cut in a sun roof and now the hard top is falling in. both sides are rotted away completely. frame looks bad too. even had grand ideas of frame stretch and make a fj45 pick up. that would solve the issues of back being entirely gone. but even then there is alot of work to get to that point. and not willing to spend 2k for a project i am not 100 percent wanting at this point in life.

if this thing would have been a little bit more salvageable i would consider it.

Yuck, yeah that's a parts rig for sure. Funny how the first pics only showed the good angles but these recent pics show a different story.
