I like to watch videos of people that explore abandoned places.

This guy is crazy good at it. Some of his videos he has permission but plays it off like he doesn't. For the most part he is trespassing.

Years ago about 1985 I went down into the original LA subway tunnel, walked back to where it was blocked off 1/4 - 1/2 mile and emptied a 30 round mag from a short AR15.

The same spot is sealed off at the entrance now but back then was just a chain link fence gate that kept most from going into the tunnel.

Site talks about some of the places I explored as a teen thru my 20's.

It was called the "Pacific Electric aka Red Car lines. Also called the Belmont tunnel.

Map of tunnel below, the tunnel was caved in the middle in the mid 1960's because of pillars that passed thru from tall buildings in LA.

I follow a guy on Facebook that explores abandoned mines. Some if the stuff he finds hasn't seen the light of day in over 100 years

I thought all kids did this kind of thing? When me and my friends were young this is one of the things we would do.

Our highschool had fallout tunnels that were unlocked from the outside and I dont think they knew it, but we did.

The elevator in town was unlocked in the back. We went up to the top on the manlift and in the tunnels underneath. That manlift is super dangerous. Its just a belt with a wood platform to stand on and a handle to hold, no cage or anything if you fall off you are falling over a hundred feet to your death. Now I can go up there with a key, without being a criminal. Two opposite pictures I took. On on the ground looking up the other from the top room.

There is a creek that runs under the town in a tunnel over a half mile long. Its called the Pocamo we used to ride bikes in there and race boats we made out if tin foil.

Look at that nose :smokin:

In high school we used to go party in these old bunkers by the golden gate bridge. They were not fenced off very well and you could crawl in there and check it out. They were these old cannon installations to defend from ships coming to invade SF, there are a few of them yp there still and they have underground barracks and munitions storage

We did the same thing on the other side of the GG at Fort Kronkite. We had one friend who made explosive devices we would set off in the old missile silos. Good times.

I've been in a few big mine tunnels around here, tunnels under college campuses, climbed around on construction cranes, used to party in an old closed up high school by climbing through a grated window into the basement then wander around exploring, now it's offices. Videos don't do much for me and I'm too old and sane to risk the charges getting caught doing that stuff would bring now.

Post 10 is entertaining if you like watching drains get unclogged...lol apparently nearly half a million people subscribe to that.

Also explored the batteries in and around LA and San Franfreak show and the NIKE bases in both areas.

Have books somewhere that I bought when at the NIKE site in Marin headlands last time we were there.

There is a mostly abandoned Navy base in Panama. Rodman Naval Station. My ship pulled in there in 2009. When our lease expired on the canal, the base was given back to the Panamanian govt.

We explored all the buildings one day when we were bored. It was super cool. All of the offices, barracks, utility buildings, repair shops, etc were still fully furnished and power was still on.

It was like they just picked up and left one day.

I stayed in Wendover Nevada for a few weeks when my van threw a rod near there in 1980. I got a job at the only casino there at the time, job came with a room in an old barracks in the WW2 airbase. You could wander in an out of almost every old building and hangar there. The only one that was secured was the shutdown power plant full of about 6 foot diameter generators. There were woodstoves at each end of a lot of old quonset huts, one had full firefighting suits hanging up still, pretty cool place to explore. A train depot siding building had old pamphlets with minuteman 2 missile training info laying around. I stashed some stuff in the crawlspace of the abandoned 1 room church there that a friend of mine retrieved for me later. Supposedly one of the A bombs started it's journey to Japan from there. A couple buildings were used by Bonneville race teams so were secured.

Pics?

I know a photographer who’s been documenting the decay of the town for many years. You can’t just go in there in your own.

no pics. the camera, film and all my clothing were confiscated at the airport due to high radiation levels. sent me on the plain butt naked.

it happened though. honest. :flipoff2:

This one he had permission, but makes it look like they broke in.

Still cool.
How do you know they had permission?

I can't find the video, but seen one with guys climbing something that looked like nuke cooling towers (I don't think they were actually cooling towers).
At the top was some trolleys with big sheaves. They were walking across steel structures that didn't look like much.

ITT: boomers telling stories about what they did to get cool shit locked up, sealed off and demo'd

I was one of the last to leave Ft. Clayton. They remodeled all of the buildings first. Our barracks were shit until about a year out we got to move next door to the one they just finished. They were nice, we lived in shit.

Brand new just to give it back. Clayton turned into some sort of education area so at least they are using the buildings.

Lots of pipe got laid in barracks rooms in Panama. LOTS! It was fun '94 -'98.

Back before 9/11, Had a crazy high school buddy come visit for a month. I told him I would show him around. What better way than to climb some local cell towers here in Raleigh.:smokin: Used to be able to walk right up to them. We had it down to an art. 2500 feet took 3.5 hours up, 45 minutes back down. We packed a lunch. Anything less was just an evening event. Learnt a lot about them.

Knightsplay/Hwy 64 tower 2000 feet
Blaney Franks Road tower 1500 feet
Twin Johnston County towers we did the one to the east 2500 feet
New Bern Ave tower 2000 feet

You can tell the height by the different colors. Each color change represents 500 feet. Usually red and white.
You can hear a whisper from anyone on the ground coming from upwind. (Knightsplay golf course)
The very top is where the men and boys get separated. You have pegs on each side / no safety cage.
You can feel the energy up on top every time the light at the top blinks.
Probably shortened our lifespan from all the electric exposure.

Someone is going to wonder WTF happened there when they find the rounds. They will probably makeup some story and it was just you fucking off. :lmao:
