Exo Cage Thread

Their ugly I get it. But head room is great and trying to semi - keep the body ok (who knows why, its just going to get trashed eventually) typically are a "one hard roll" kinda cage.. bue were gonna do one anyway.

Heres a bunch of photos I had saved:

I agree. Seems most lack some sort of X or lateral bracing. They also seem to ALWAYS get the b pillar hung up on stuff.

Heres the cage on my truck, we did this one back in 2014, been flopped each side a few times, but no full rolls. When it went on:

Few weekends ago: A pillar and side roof bars have both bent in a little, but not too bad. B pillar is tucked back behind the cab for easy sliding and so I could keep denting up the cab.

The big deciding factor is the style of rig too. Single cab pickup is the hardest to work with... If you need any kind of head room it's either a full exo cage, or a hybrid cage, or an interior cage that punches through the back window to get the B hoop behind the cab.

I'm definitely getting in on this thread as I need to do something on my Taco. I have a nice hoop on the flatbed, so I'm planning to tie that into an exo around the cab that punches through the fenders into a hybrid cage.

The best Taco cage I've seen had rolled tubes to match the curve of the cab and was able to follow the body within about 1/4" the entire way. I'd love to give that a try too.

Mine. Completely integrated into the frame. No "X" on the B pillar, instead two horizontal tubes recieving shoulder belts (in cab) and back half out of the side the cab.

My Junk from the other site. loosely based on the all pro bed cage with the rear down bars extended back because I had plans to put a 36" rear seat in the bed.

Iv built a few hybrid ones over the years
The blue 4runner has been upside down around 8 times and the cage has held up great.

i think exos look better than internal cages, people that think theyre ugly are boring ass lame fucktards :flipoff2:

Anyone over about 5' 4' isn't going to be happy with a Toyota and an internal cage anyway.

Like YotaAtieToo said, an exocage is pretty much mandatory for a mini truck build unless you are a miget or like banging your head on hard immovable tubular objects.

As far as exo's go..... Some are tasteful others are hideous. Depends who builds it.

wow really? mini trucks are mini sized? you guys are like full of knowledge and stuff, totally just schooled me :homer::flipoff2:

I follow you guys, I fricken love that blue runner. If the glass finally ever brakes in my truck its getting re done like that rig.

Why wait for the glass to break, time to bust out the Sawzall 😅

I like my winter warmth.

With the snowblower cab zip tied to the cage, and no trans tunnel, it stays pretty warm in there and keeps the snow/rain off your lap

Found these on social media. This was from a high speed roll over on the road, but really hoping to avoid this kinda thing happening.

This has always been the downside of an exo on a suv for me. At least on a single cab truck you can fit cross bracing and B billar support without chopping holes in the roof.

Looks like 1.5" could be hrew, but I could see Dom folding like that.

Anyone surprised by that shouldn't be building cages. An exo is an enormous compromise for strength. Which is why b pillar bracing is important. On my 2nd gen 4runner, I had an internal B pillar with tubes through the roof to tie it into the exo.

internal cage gets sandwich plate through the floor to connect to the frame, the same should be done to the roof for internal x bracing on an exo, it should be sandwich plated through the floor to the frame as well

A buddy just stumbled across this post. The red 4runner is mine. If you search #IFsrunner on IG and click recent the built pictures should show up. The goal was to build a full body rig that could follow my friends buggies while hauling tools and coolers.

Don't have a lot of pictures on my new phone. Search #IFsrunner on IG.

Dude has zero triangulation. That's why it failed so bad.
