EBikes?

We have a Radwagon 4. My friends and in-laws have other Rad Power Bikes. Everyone has good things to say. They're not cheap, but they're common enough that a used one may be able to be found, especially headed into fall.

I ride it to pick my 4 year old up from preschool at least once a week, 8 miles round trip, two pretty good hills. I can comfortably do this 3 times without recharging, but I typically recharge it every night.

I also have a proper electric assist mountain bike (YT Decoy) and I'll strap his Stacyc to my back and pick him up on the mountain bike once a week.

My opinion on city/commuter ebikes is that some exercise is infinitely better than no exercise, both for your fitness, and you mood. I regularly go run errands on the ebike. Before the ebike, I would only ride if riding was the point, and never for utility.

So I wonder what would happen if I head down a bike trail on my Batavus regency (under 3hp, quite, has pedals).

I just am annoyed at these things being called "ebikes", they are just mopeds.
I thought mopeds were allowed on bike trails/routes

haven't ridden a moped for a looooong time though. That thing was absolute king shit when all us kids would go visit grandpa and cruise the moped around

But she’s also not a grown ass heterosexual American man :flipoff2:

I've got to admit that my mountain biking is a lot more casual than it was decades ago... And it is a bit different going on a weekend mountain bike ride and pedaling home after putting in ten hours at work and just being out of it.

My brother in law has a Talaria it’s fun to ride and he says it can go about 35 miles on a charge. But at $4kish it’s too rich for my blood.

Yeah, a lot of nice options out there, but many are more than I want to spend.

Buy a kit and convert a regular bike..

I looked into that and by the time I'd research things, get the parts, and put it together I think I'd rather spend the money.

Work harder so you can buy a car.

I've got a few vehicles. Just that they barely get warmed up by the end of the drive, so it seems like an e-something would make more sense.

The batteries slide out pretty easy. I charge them outside if I am leaving them unattended most of the time but I have charged them inside with no issues ever anywhere.

Yeah, would either keep an eye on them or do it outside.

Buy a real motorcycle.

Got one of those. See above comment about vehicles.

I got one earlier this year thinking the wife would tote the kids around. I cruise it very rarely but it's comfy and quick. I'll sell it to you half price.

PM me some deets if you're serious.

Dad has 2 ebikes, He's in his 70s and says it's like he can ride like his 30's again. He was still riding a regular bike, but he likes the ability to ride faster and also the ability to just cruise home when he gets tired.

Not quite to my 70s, but this is where I'm coming from.

My opinion on city/commuter ebikes is that some exercise is infinitely better than no exercise, both for your fitness, and you mood.

And this.

I daily a Radrunner for my 8 mile round trip commute.
Zip tied a milk crate to hold my cooler and charge it at work so it costs me nothing.
Also use it to do errands around town and take my dog to the river to drink beer and pretend to fish.
Had it for 4 years now and love it.
Attach a short board beach cruiser rack and haul the paddle board to drink beer and oogle young chicks in bikinis sometimes as well.

every adult that I know that is too much of a d-bag to actually handle a motorcycle rides a E-bike

Bumping an old thread... it's tuesday...

I've been riding an old Mongoose hardtail with some cheap upgrades and a Bafang BBSHD mid drive kit and a Whale Shark 52v Battery. So far it's been pretty fun. Now I'm wanting full suspension and I've been tempted to try to fit the mid drive on my Santa Cruz Superlite 26". I would have to buy another battery as the whale shark battery won't fit the Santa Cruz. I'm also looking at buying another bike that has an integrated battery and motor the Polygon T6e.

Here's my current ebike

This is the bike I'm thinking about buying

Is the polygon going to be worth my time and money? I've watched some videos and read reviews that seem promising. Does anybody here have experience with Polygon?

You should cross post in the mountain bike thread for coverage. That one is chock full of e-bikers :flipoff2:

I've known a couple people with polygon/Marin bikes and they've all liked them. If it's at all in the budget spending $1k more and getting their tip of the line model would get you way better components, motor, and suspension. Be easier to sell when the time comes too. Wheels are probably still hot garbage though.

bumping old thread.

Im not looking for an emountain bike, although the surrons and such look fun. But the $$ is too rich for my blood at this time.

Im looking for more of a cruiser for around camp sites. I have a klx110 but more and more places are banning these bikes due to noise.

Im looking at bikes like the super 73 etc

Any recommendations? what to look for and what to avoid?

I have a
Motoped

You can now get them in electric. I bought mine because pit bikes were defined as having pedals

Now pit bikes are defined as having pedals and being human powered. I may have been responsible for the rule change. :lmao:

Whatever you do, do NOT buy one of these
Wanna break a wrist? How bout a collarbone?

Team owner has one with special handicap designation (see previous rule change) and I guarantee someone will break a wrist or collarbone this season. I speak from nearly achieving this on my first ride

wow same situation here - we camp with truck and camper so unless wee have something else to get around with, we stay at camp. I have a 1970 Honda Trail 90 but it is being finnicky, was looking for an 80's Honda xl80/100/185 or 250 but then figured what the heck, my days of exploring trails on a dirtbike are long gone. I just maybe want to go up the road a couple kms to a fishing hole, or do some road hunting for grouse and rabbits - so I started looking at ebikes. pulled the pin on the Jansno x70 the other day and should be delivered today/tomm. has decent specs (for what I want to do) and decent price point. I got mine on Amazon

My wife rented us PEDEGO bicycles for my birthday, to ride around Houston bike paths. It was a great time. but the mother fucker was heavy. I can't imagine one getting down in weight enough to be remotely good on any "mountain bike trail"

Under 55# you only notice the weight loading it in the truck after the first couple rides. I know a guy that does backflips on one. :flipoff2:

Debating between an Ariel Rider Kepler and a WIRED Freedom. Used for 10mi commute on occasion, lazy trip to the grocery store for a couple things, and probably some bike paths/trails in the area. Decided I don't want some cheap, Amazon 250-500w deal that will struggle on a little hill. If it's something I want to use to commute, I want speed with maintain some legal plausible deniability.

Both have reviews and videos of them doing 35mph+. Speed is important for the commute days.
Same low level Shimano 7 speed.
26x4 fat tire bikes.
1000W motors.
Adjustable forks on both.

Kepler:
IIRC 1850w max motor. 85-90Nm of torque (I believe)
52V 20Ah Battery. Would still cover my commute days and can be charged at work or home.
I could see me wanting to upgrade to dual batteries in the future for more miles, or I'm overthinking it and would be fine with 20Ah.
Probably upgrade the headlight on both.

Pros:
Price. $1600 total
Brake light is nice for when I'd need to be on the road (25 or 35 mph areas).

Cons:
Can not find any/many reviews within the past two years. Seems odd.
Would want to change out the display for one that displays battery in Volts vs. %. Est. $100-150
52T Chainring. Most likely would want a little bigger. Est $50-100 (without changing rear)
Hard tail. Most likely would not be that big of a deal for what I would be doing.
2.5A charger. Slow, but probably wouldn't be an issue.
73lbs.

Freedom:
3200w Peak motor. 153Nm Torque.
60V 45Ah, dual battery.
56T Chainring.
3A chargers.
As far as I can tell, nothing would need to be updated for what I want.
105lbs.

Pros:
A lot of recent deliveries with fresh reviews of the latest revision with updates.
Power. No question it will get up to the speed I want and in a hurry.
Large battery capacity. Peace of mind and able to apply the acceleration more without worry.
Hybrid motor gears. Nylon with steel sandwiching the ends.
Dual suspension. Adjustable rear. Should make for a better ride.

Cons:
Price. $2475 to my door.
Both batteries need to be charge simultaneously. Two chargers. More than I want to carry into the office, but can charge at home and not transport the chargers given the extended battery.

I have a Radrunner from Rad bikes that I love.
Ride it to work (8 mile round trip) daily for about 5 years now.

The Jansno x70 arrived last week and finally got out on a spin yesterday. No regrets on buying this thing. Most of the reviews I have seen were city commuters on pretty flat roads.
Right away I hit the dirt trails, I have a super steep paved hill off my driveway, leading to a power line trail. At only 750w it needs me to pedal to get up the hill, but at highest pedal assist, it is pretty easy going. I can't imagine (I didn't try) how hard it would be to pedal those 4" wide tires up that hill. It gains good speed on flat and downhill but slows like hitting a wall when you hit a climb of any sort. It is important to plan ahead and be in the right gear.
Everything works well out of the box, the electonics actually have a quite a few adjustable settings. Had to dig a bit online to find a manual for the computer but once I did it was pretty complete. Watched a utube video of some guy going through it and he got to the tire size setting, noted it was set at 23 and "I won't change that"
Dude, the bike has 20" tires. Why would you not change it?.
I am guessing the speed display is calculated by the computer based on a speed sensor in the hub and the tire size. Wouldn't the speed be overstated if the input tire size is larger than actual?
Anyway, nice bike for a non hardcore bike rider and definitely a nice alternative to an IC motorcycle for running around while camping.
Build quality is good and everything works as it should, even the cable disc brakes stop it in a decent amount of time.

You should definitely get a $90,000 piece of shit modern diesel pick em up truck for that commute.
Add big gay wheels and rubber band tires to show everyone how you like your anus gaped.

Be sure to tell everyone its so you can individualize the truck to you as you look like every other compensating toolbag and passive aggressive whiteboi on the road.
