Dockworkers strike.

Union boss willing to ‘cripple’ America made more than $900,000 last year

International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) President Harold Daggett, who has suggested his organization can “cripple” the U.S. economy with its ongoing strike, was paid nearly $1 million by the union last year, according to Politico.
ILA began its major strike affecting 36 ports along the East and Gulf Coasts early Tuesday morning, raising the possibility that shortages and price increases hit inflation-weary American consumers if the work stoppage is not resolved sooner than later. Daggett, who has accused the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) of exploiting ILA labor to generate wealth, took home $901,000 from the union in 2023, Politico reported.
Daggett made $728,000 from the ILA last year and an additional $173,000 for being the president emeritus of ILA Local 1804-1, according to Politico. ILA members make approximately $81,000 in base salary, though some can make as much as $200,000 in a year if they are able to work many overtime hours, according to The Associated Press.
Daggett also owned a 76-foot yacht as of January 2017, and ILA members have spotted him driving around in a Bentley in the past, according to The New York Times.
Daggett appears to be well aware of the power he can wield by keeping 14 major ports shut down while seeking major concessions from USMX in a new contract. JPMorgan estimates that the strike could cost up to $4.5 billion per day, according to the AP, and a broad coalition of trade groups and business interests warned that a strike “would have a devastating impact on the economy” in a Sept. 17 letter to President Joe Biden.
“These people today don’t know what a strike is,” Daggett said in a video uploaded to YouTube by the union on Sept. 5. “I’ll cripple you. I will cripple you.”
Among other demands, the union wants a ban on automation to protect jobs and a substantial pay raise to make up for inflation, according to the AP. Biden could intervene to at least temporarily end the strike, though he said Sunday he does not intend to do so.

Daggett has made headlines before, having been described by the Department of Justice (DOJ) as a mafia “associate” who ascended the union’s internal hierarchy with the help of organized crime, according to The New York Times. The DOJ has brought and lost two cases against Daggett, who described himself as a victim of mafia thuggery on the witness stand in a 2005 trial during which his mobster co-defendant vanished before being discovered dead in the trunk of a car in New Jersey.
ILA did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

I have some concerns we work around the ports but not for the ports. Hopefully my guys don't have to deal with any BS trying to work.

Dammit, we are making a costco run tonight (not because of dock strike). I hope it's not a shit show.

I worked at a non union plant that was built specifically to get away from a union plant in NY. We out produced the old plant, using their old machines (they got new shiny stuff) with a brand new crew. We started the plant in April and were 20% ahead on production with less waste by December.
They got 10% Christmas bonus and we got fruit baskets. Their pay was roughly double ours also, but I was in a pretty low COL area compared to them.

Fuckers did everything they could to justify their worthless asses. Even sabotaged equipment sent to us.

Fuck union attitudes, although I will say I like some of the changes that were brought about by unions.
This sounds like General Electric if I had to guess

IBEW21 made a run at a couple of offices I ran. The union reps didn't like it when you pointed out to the employees they were trying to to swindle how much they made off the dues with readily available info from their own tax filings

I worked in a small UAW shop that made steering parts for Ford and some small transmission parts for GM. Every time we had a union meeting, the president of the local would show up in a different Cadillac. He was not very popular in the shop.

Daggett reminds me of my union experiences. The medallion and chain he's wearing in the video tells me all I need to know.

October surprise psyop! Is the dock strike staged so Kamala can swoop in and save the day?

In what could be a crushing blow to the nation’s economy, unionized dockworkers walked off the job over a labor dispute that if unresolved, will bring chaos to the supply chain five weeks before the election.

But is it being “staged” so that Democratic nominee Kamala Harris can swoop in to the rescue? The provocative theory of an “October surprise” is being shared on social media with speculation that the union is engaging in a “psyop” that will allow Harris to negotiate a deal, and the media will then portray her as a savior.
In a short video posted to X, a man wearing a red “Make America Great Again” ballcap lays out an entirely plausible theory considering the brazen cynicism and amorality of the Democrats and their allies.

“What’s the odds that these union workers are going on strike, these dock workers, because they’re planning the October surprise for Kamala Harris to come in and magically negotiate a deal,” he said. “Get the dock workers back to work, get the unions all riled up, and then every union across America endorses Kamala and they run with that as their October surprise.”
“Do you think that is possible or do you think this was all by design and we’re going to see food shortages crisis, migrant centers running out of food and resources, and then see 30 million illegal immigrants, mostly of which, whom are military-age men aka mercenaries who are being paid to stay in these hotels and houses all across America, they’re getting $9,000 checks, free cars, cellphones, all food, resources everything paid for, health insurance, dental, what do you think happens when they get cut off?” he asked, suggesting something even more sinister than unions colluding with the Harris team to make her a hero.

“October surprise, get ready folks,” he concluded.
The user also shared a clip of International President of the International Longshoremen’s Association President Harold Daggett threatening to “cripple” the U.S. economy.

The dock workers from the northeast to Texas walked off the job at midnight on Tuesday and began walking picket lines after President Joe Biden refused to use the Taft-Hartley Act to avoid a crippling work stoppage that if it drags on, would have ripple effects, not the least of which would be higher prices, shortages, and layoffs.

“We are prepared to fight as long as necessary, to stay out on strike for whatever period of time it takes, to get the wages and protections against automation our ILA members deserve,” Daggett said in a statement. “They must now meet our demands for this strike to end.”
Harris needs all the help she can get with the veep and her lame duck boss Joe Biden catching hell over their botched response to Hurricane Helene.
And who predicted that yesterday? Thats right this motherfucker.

I generally don’t think of unions (one way or the other, whether that’s a flaw of mine….I dunno).

But with all the shit going on in the SE right now, and thinking of how important the supply chain is at this moment, particularly in this area….I hope that union president and anyone who supports him burn.

If the pandemic and all the shortages of prescription drugs and other basic needs and this strike don't hammer home the need to be self sufficient as much as possible as a country then nothing will

I agree. But in my mind, if these guys are doing this when people need all resources to search/rescue/recover/rebuild/etc., then fuck them.

Selfish and microcosmically focused on my part? Perhaps. But intimately seen by me at this point.

Imagine turning down a 50% salary increase (of whats likely already a decent paying job) in this economy and expecting sympathy from the general public
I'm not a union guy but i see the place for them in the beginning. I don't do that job, my only experience I have with the shipping business is from the end of one of my customers ( who are really worried about whats going on) BUT... They have specific anti-automation clauses in the contract. That is hurting the country. I see the union fighting to keep their jobs but you should want re-training for affected people. Union automation operators. The union should be fighting to help the members and the country. Thats what I would do. This attitude is probably why I'm not rich and will probably work until the day I die while union bosses retire with 6 figure retirements.

We would see this shit at the airlines, a crises is a gold mine to them and they view it as leverage for themselves. The members would bitch and moan about how they are getting fucked over constantly, meanwhile the equipment mechanic who is in the union has been on the clock for 10hrs, hair still combed and no at a spec of dirt on him telling me how good management has it while not having to do any work unlike them. Yea your right, my no job protection, I get paid less, worse health care, a shitter retirement and I don't get paid OT is pretty sweet, fuck off. Flip side is the managers could never figure out why the union guys never wanted to move into management, gee I wonder why:laughing:.

I watched an interview with that fat fuck ILA union boss the other day, and that dude is 100% in the mafia, both literally and figuratively.

I also think trump has an opportunity here to go in and help the negotiations ahead of dumbass Kamala and have some bigly wins.

That fucktard boasting in the interview about shutting the country down just might have sealed unions fate or propelled them to the top at the expense of the country as a whole. I'm hopeful people see it and realize how fucked they are by these goons but this is clown world so they'll probably have the douche run for president in 2028. :homer:
