You probably don't know any longshoremen, guaranteed none of them are for Kamala even though the union leadership is for her. I can also guarantee she won't solve this despite the union leadership being all in for her.

You can talk a lot of justified shit about these fucks. But they are committed to the union.

Well here's the chance to see everyone's theory on how gouging works out in the public eye.

I can be on their side with the fighting of the automation but the 73% pay increase pushes me WAY over the top against them. Greedy fucks.

They were slow rolling in the Port of Charleston for a little while now leading up to this.

There is no stopping automation short of a nuclear exchange that sets humanity back. Even then, automation is coming as soon as someone can cobble together the parts needed and can supply electricity.

It's a 6 year contract so that increase is like 9% per year. I can't find the previous contract but I bet it had like a 3% per year increase so that would get that back to roughly even with inflation.

Automation is coming, I think the best they will get is a we won't lay people off because of it but we do reserve the right to not fill positions because of it.
 
I worked at a non union plant that was built specifically to get away from a union plant in NY. We out produced the old plant, using their old machines (they got new shiny stuff) with a brand new crew. We started the plant in April and were 20% ahead on production with less waste by December.
They got 10% Christmas bonus and we got fruit baskets. Their pay was roughly double ours also, but I was in a pretty low COL area compared to them.

Fuckers did everything they could to justify their worthless asses. Even sabotaged equipment sent to us.

Fuck union attitudes, although I will say I like some of the changes that were brought about by unions.

In what could be a crushing blow to the nation’s economy, unionized dockworkers walked off the job over a labor dispute that if unresolved, will bring chaos to the supply chain five weeks before the election.

But is it being “staged” so that Democratic nominee Kamala Harris can swoop in to the rescue? The provocative theory of an “October surprise” is being shared on social media with speculation that the union is engaging in a “psyop” that will allow Harris to negotiate a deal, and the media will then portray her as a savior.
In a short video posted to X, a man wearing a red “Make America Great Again” ballcap lays out an entirely plausible theory considering the brazen cynicism and amorality of the Democrats and their allies.


“What’s the odds that these union workers are going on strike, these dock workers, because they’re planning the October surprise for Kamala Harris to come in and magically negotiate a deal,” he said. “Get the dock workers back to work, get the unions all riled up, and then every union across America endorses Kamala and they run with that as their October surprise.”
“Do you think that is possible or do you think this was all by design and we’re going to see food shortages crisis, migrant centers running out of food and resources, and then see 30 million illegal immigrants, mostly of which, whom are military-age men aka mercenaries who are being paid to stay in these hotels and houses all across America, they’re getting $9,000 checks, free cars, cellphones, all food, resources everything paid for, health insurance, dental, what do you think happens when they get cut off?” he asked, suggesting something even more sinister than unions colluding with the Harris team to make her a hero.

“October surprise, get ready folks,” he concluded.
The user also shared a clip of International President of the International Longshoremen’s Association President Harold Daggett threatening to “cripple” the U.S. economy.



The dock workers from the northeast to Texas walked off the job at midnight on Tuesday and began walking picket lines after President Joe Biden refused to use the Taft-Hartley Act to avoid a crippling work stoppage that if it drags on, would have ripple effects, not the least of which would be higher prices, shortages, and layoffs.

“We are prepared to fight as long as necessary, to stay out on strike for whatever period of time it takes, to get the wages and protections against automation our ILA members deserve,” Daggett said in a statement. “They must now meet our demands for this strike to end.”
Harris needs all the help she can get with the veep and her lame duck boss Joe Biden catching hell over their botched response to Hurricane Helene.
