Dock water and power

So if it were me.
I would call the electrician. Find out the best way to handle it. Then i would see if i could shave their labor down by doing the grunt work. No reason to pay them to trench wire from the house to the dock and run conduit down it. Leave it all stubbed out where they tell you to put it, then pay them to come and land your pedestal\wire transformers\hook it to the house.
You save money doing the idiot work, but still get an electrician hooking it up safely and doing all the maths.

The cost of wire vs the cost of transformers is just going to come down to how much power you want.
If the electrician is anything like the mechanics on IBB he'll charge you more for denying him the opportunity to do the whole job any not warranty it.

I dont know shit about fuck but would there be any money in renting your dock out nightly with power, water, and wifi?
There is money in renting slips at popular marinas I found that out this Spring in Orange Beach.

sounds good in theory, but you're gonna have to interview about 10 electricians If you can get them to show up to bid this ~$5k project which is 'small' apparently ) to find the 1 who doesn't think running wire and conduit requires 4 yrs of apprentice experience. :shaking:

As an addendum.
If i were trenching conduit to the dock Id run an extra 3\4 one for data. Run fiber out to the dock so you can have wifi at the boat.
For updating gps units or whatever.

I’m not trenching at this time. Right now I just want the cable and hose to go from one end of the dock to the other. I have a lot more planning to figure where I want the underground part. I was thinking about a data line also. Telephone line?

Yes, there is definitely a market for it. I’m not sure I want to do that, but it wouldn’t hurt to have the option. The county has a law that a maximum of two boats can be parked at a non-commercial dock. I plan to have a yacht and a “run about”, but the smaller boat might not be parked there all the time. I doubt that the county enforces that rule much.

I also might rent my yacht out as a BnB. (Not to leave the dock)

yeah, Nate doesn't factor in that that OP has $50k + tied up here and 1500 in wire is a rounding error.
I was picturing a maybe couple grand $$ dock like normal people have. Usually on wheels so it can be pulled out for winter otherwise the ice would destroy it.

Maybe.
Or maybe you find the guy willing to charge you a thousand dollars to do a half days work hooking up the shit and signing off on it. Never know till you make some calls.

I just dealt with a ‘ small’ $4k permitted electric job involving $1200 worth of material and a day of actual work taking your time. I had to award it to the only guy of 7 I called 3 who showed up to quote it and 1 who actually delivered a quote in dollars.

Caught a helicopter with my dock camera. (Not me)

Yeah, they think anything under 75° is winter and they will be all bundled up. :lmao:
I'm changing minds about winter. I'm really seeking the no bugs for 4 months aspect.
Mosquitos in December is bullshit Florida.
