Do you have a comprehensive list of your firearms serial numbers?

I'm going to try to add a poll, but it's been a minute, so here are the options, until I figure it out

I'm going to get to it.

yes, but it's out of date.

somewhere. I may be able to find it.

yes, up to date, and I know exactly where it is

NO.

NO, but I am intentionally not collecting that data

Bacon is a stupid answer, and was funny for a day a decade or 2 back, but at this point is totally lacking in originality, creativity, or even a modicum of humor.

Edit: I guess we are not getting a real poll, because I can't figure that shit out.
Edit: Edit: Apparently polls are only available in Chit Chat. (interesting)

The ATF has your list:confused:

It's not about the ATF, it's about, if your shit got stolen, would you be able to provide the PD with the serial number in an effort to ever get your stuff back.

If my shit was stolen, it is gone forever, because I am shit about keeping up with the serial numbers.

Not sure where I am at with firearms, but with everything else I try to take pictures of serial and model numbers. If you are using like google photos it is backed up online forever.

Yes, in a little notepad (with descriptions) AND on thumb drive (pics and serial #). Both hidden, for whatever reason.

Yes, finally took the time to do it. Paper copy only, never been on a computer. My best friend has a copy of it as well in the event that it’s necessary.

We had a similar thread a few months ago.

I've got a spreadsheet.

Make | Model | Serial Number | Distinguishing Characteristic

I used it as an excuse to buy a macro lens for my DSLR. Model links to a couple photos of the gun. Serial Nmumber links to a photo of the serial number. Distinguishing Characteristic is pretty self explanatory, but I include scope, light, other accessories on it too.

I have a book of guns, descriptions, where I bought it and how much. Some entries have serials some don't. I'm going back to document them with serials. Pictures would be nice but I'm not sure I want all that on the cloud. Google photos makes a nice bound book of photos which could be cool, used it as a gift for our kids photos

Yup pics and serials. On my thumbdrive and on a backup in the safedeposit box.

I made a list at one point because I was worried about insurance. I decided to sell the guns and burn the list so insurance wouldn’t have to tell me they’re not covering more than $x,000 in personal items and my wife’s ring I wasn’t cheap.

When would a list like this get used?

Ideally just to settle an estate. Hopefully not for an insurance claim or report of theft.

Lots of people are worried about fed tracking, but they already know how many NICS checks you've had approved. If the feds don't know what you bought specifically, they probably just assume every one of them was a .50 BMG rifle/pistol/other when the decide to come knocking.

I keep an excel sheet with everything listed and an approximate value. The people who will be dealing with whatever I leave behind have no clue what any of it is worth or what to keep or liquidate.

For me, it’s about insurance claim. If a gun Got stolen out of my truck or something, it would be so I could put it on the report and if the number was ever run maybe I would get it back.

Same for me. I also have all of my guns under a personal articles insurance policy. I tell them what dollar amount I want them insured for and if anything ever happens, like stolen/lost in a fire, they pay me the amount I set up for that gun. I'm not worried about fed tracking.

Yes. It’s probably out of date at this point. For the ones without serial numbers, which is most of them, photos and any identifiable marks are kept on a hard drive. Makes it easy for any insurance claims. If the gov comes for them, I’ll just buy another AK parts kit and a flat and make it extra illegal.

I've got most of them but there are a few new additions/subtractions that need to be updated. Copy on my PC, flash drive in safe (not gun safe). Need to update the one at my folks house.

Don't have pics but need to take some. Details like scopes and accessories aren't complete and need to be.

Also need to take toolbox and equipment pics. Just in case of a fire to make sure everything gets remembered.

I wonder if a gun gets recovered, do they ever give it to you? I’ve heard that any weapon involved in a crime is gone forever.

The FBI gave a Glock back to a buddy of mine after they recovered it because he was as far as they could trace it. The gun had been sold many times over after he sold it off, but they returned it to him. Hey, free gun!
