Do you back in to parking spots?

Do you back in?

Yeah; I'm a K.I.S.S. dude.

IMHO; backing in at least partially defeats the purpose (of preventing an accident).
In the datas opinion you are safer backing into a controlled space than backing into an uncontrolled space. Controlled being the parking spot uncontrolled bring the driving lane. That's why many companies have back in only policies.

Yes, I back my 4Runner into 50' driveway. The other lot is lopsided & backing up w/truck, the bed gets filled with rainwater, so I park nose in-

Anybody remember the post on pirate about the guy at the store who backed out into a assembly/collection of shopping carts/trolleys 🛒?

The feedback was hilarious- 🤣

Back the truck in to park everywhere.

Back it into the garage down a 120' driveway around the shed.

Wife backs her car into the garage as well. She didn't want to at first, but once she tried to Back OUT that driveway, she changed her tune. A little bit of direction on where to look and how to line it up and she could probably do it with her eyes closed now.

Do some of you guys try to avoid backing trailers as well? The car guys made me realize I don’t know what it’s like to DD a car. My smallest DD wheels is a 142 inch wheel base 4 door full size SUV.

I also tow trailers weekly. I’ve got 3 trailers and dad has 6 that can be towed by pickups. They’re all backed up against a fence somewhere for storage. Not only do I think I’m a better truck backer upper, I think pretty highly of my trailer backer upper skills as well. :flipoff2:

Well as usual, this site is the outlier.

Nobody backs in where I live. Never see it.
The only people I see backing into spaces around here are people who shouldn't be backing a vehicle up in any circumstance. Could also be an area thing because people in this area seriously suck with even basic vehicle operating skills.

I back in or pull through pretty much everywhere except for times when I need to open the hatch to get the stroller out or put goods in after coming out from the store.

I prefer to back into a controlled space, aka my parking spot, where it is unlikely anything is going to appear from out of view suddenly like happens backing out into an uncontrolled space like a parking lot lane where pedestrians or vehicles are moving about.

My wife almost never backs in. She did for a while at our last house, but not at the new place.

I usually back in, or pull through for the same reason.
Easier to avoid other cars and pedestrians when out and about, kids, the dog and cats at home if I back in.

Lol - just typing this out hits hard at how easily I get amused.
I have found that if you start parking in a new parking lot where nobody backs in, but you do....you can get more people backing in. I shit you not, I have proven this to myself over and over again. The company has a shared company car that I use regularly. We used to park it on an underground parkade and everyone using that parkade fronted in. I started backing in and over a period of weeks more and more others started backing in. Licence plate on the company car kept getting stolen so we switched to a different lot. Same thing, everyone fronted in and I started backing in. Sure enough, after a few weeks it was more than 50% backed in.

Anyway, I almost always back in. I'm going to have to back up at some point anyway, I'd just rather get it over with when I park, rather than when I leave

This morning as I was backing into my spot and seeing this sign in my rear view mirror reminded me of this thread.

Do they have security cameras on the parking lot.

If they did I'd back in and pull through just because.
Yes, security is retarded high here. But you’d be backing over two cement blocks pinned to the ground to do it. There’s one row over by the warehouse that’s pull through

Only oilfield trash do it here, usually with their mirrors flipped out.

One place the safety guy insists everyone back into the parking spot cause it is safer when you leave. Another place the safety guy insists pulling into the space is better cause you must inspect behind the truck before you back out or some blather.

Pretty much just safety guys tryin to justify thier paycheck.:flipoff2:

Decisions based on # of incident reports. :homer:

One of my dumbass fellow employees got lit up in a meeting for breaking this rule 🤣

And if you don’t understand the problem. That is a company vehicle. Backing in every time is a condition of employment here. If one cannot follow the simplest first rule where everyone can see you, you cannot be trusted to be following the rules where no one is watching

I nearly always back into spots with the CCLB I daily. But at a grocery store or something if I can pull through two spots and just hang the bed into the back spot that's my move.
I was at a plant in MX last year with a little Nissan rental. I pulled straight into the parking spot with it. The security lady made me go out and turn it around. Company policy to back in.

I’ve not read every post, but if I’m in a nice car, I pull in because I don’t want someone else to hit the front of my car. In trucks, I like to back in for the quick get away reason.

Side note, I’ve never seen a sign saying back in. I’ve seen just the opposite so they can tow you easy. Why do they want you to back in?

I've seen it posted to back in, but it's always in an Industrial place.... Schlumberger campus, or Energizer plant, any one of the dozen oil field places around here. Never seen it in anyplace with retail.

A lot of companies that provide fleet vehicles are mandating back in parking to try to lower the chance of accidents from employees backing into cars or structures due to not being able to see behind them very well.
Basically to get lower insurance rates.

Just about evrey airport I worked at/been at has back in rules for parking, this is the airfield side of things.

I know a lot of people can’t back up very good. It would seem to me that it’s easier to back out than back in. When you back out, there’s nothing to hit but the car across the isle. The isle is probably 16’ wide. When backing in, you have a car on either side and it’s probably only 8’ wide. (If that)

I’ve been to a lot of airports (I’m a pilot) and never seen this.

And cars hauling ass through the lot.

Not surprising a pilot not paying attention. I have worked at PO dunk ass small GA airports all the way up to international and we all had to back in.
