What's new

DieselDoris 1947 CJ2a from Sweden

I ordered a new winch mount from a local shop

Made new plates to weld in the radius arms

I also made a reinforcement between the lover bushing and the upper tube.

The finished arm

The angle of the arm at ride height

I put on the tube so I could move forward.

I decided to make new fenders, the old high line fenders were limiting my flex and up travel.

Temporary tube fenders

I'm finally "finished" with the front fenders.

What's left to do is finish up some reinforcements and fully weld.

I have patched my floor and transmission tunnel.

Nothing will happen the next month, we are off to US for holiday with the family.

Today was a very nice day, I have done my front driveshaft, and it cleared the bell housing without a bearing which have been a big worry for the last month.

So for the moment front and rear drive shafts are mocked up and just need to be fully welded and have new uj.

Last thing I did tonight was to start with the exhaust and have managed to fit it in between the driveshaft and upper three link bar with minimum modification

I have finished my battery holder and you see the beginning of the bracket for the limit straps

Lining up the brackets for the limit straps

Hoses are made and fitted for the steering ram.

20190822_202055
It was very difficult to find space to route the hoses properly, I was forced to use 3/8" hoses instead of the 1/2" that I wanted to use.

20190824_010342
I also have made a detachable bracket for ignition coil and misc hoses etc.
Trying to not mount anything on the fender to have easy access to the engine and other parts.

20190822_211629
Front end is basically complete it's missing some hoses and wires.

20190822_212355
Not much space for the winch, with stock length frame rails, but it fit and works.

I have made adapter plates for the rear brake callipers

20190830_220615
Paper template of the adaptor

20190831_013048
Rough cut and drilled to fit the axle

20190831_223936
I turned some spacers on the lathe

20190831_223952
The bent piece of steel is to get clearance between the disc and calliper

20190831_211324
Spacers tacked to the adaptor, I used the electric parking break to hold the calliper in the right place when I welded.

20190831_234707
After some grinding we have the finished adapter

20190901_011601
Mounted on the axle.

I'm going to use two switches for activation of the parking brake, then I can use them separately as a steering brake.

I have made new brackets for my rear panhard bar.
The bar became 140 mm longer with the new brackets.

20190902_221031
it needs some shaping to get the final form, I will do that when I take of the axle for welding.

20190905_220350

20190905_220356
It looked boring so I added a dimple on the side also.

20190906_220854
The finished bracket.
It will be welded on three sides of the frame.

20190907_211027
Some more reinforcement plates.

20190919_195348
And tacked in place.

I finally figured out how to do my rear limit straps.
20190919_194746
So now I have measured the length and have ordered the correct length.

I had to make a bracing to keep the winch mount from flexing.

I'm really happy with how they turned out and they took way to long time to make.

For the moment I'm doing a lot of small stuff that takes forever to get done.
It's not showing so no pictures to show.

But now I really have to finish this build and start to tune it, I have signed up for a competition in May.

It's going to be so much fun.

Steering ram protection done, I will weld it when I have emptied the axle.

Only two small tabs for the break line left, after that the front axle is done.

My frame is completed

On the 18/12 I got the chassi back in the workshop after I sprayed the tub earlier that day.

20191219_000829
Mounted the internals in the rear axle and the radius arms.

And connected with the frame.

I got the rear brakes all togheter

We disassembled my coil overs and mounted the foam bump and filled the CO with Fox shock oil and nitrogen.

Reservoirs mounted with jubilee clips covered with shrink tubing.

In the afternoon on Friday the 20/12 I picked up my Rims from powder coating.
The same night I sprayed the red paint on the lip.

Steering is mounted and adjusted I also measured the thickness for my spacers needed in the ram.

20191221_211145
How about a Willys gasser?

20191221_211153
Front axle have got some goodies, Longfield shafts, Birfields and fixed drive flanges.

20191222_012155
I also assembled and mounted the new fuel tank.

20191222_020911

20191222_212512
Mounted all 4 tires with beadlocks.

Here are the last pictures from the assemble of the car.

It was a totally mad race all Christmas to finish the car.
I wanted to get the car finished for our local 4x4 meet on the 26/12-19 because last time I drove it was 26/12-17 so if I manage to make it the build had been under 2 years.

20191225_025721
The hoses for brakes, axle vent and ARB goes behind the big hoses for the steering ram.

20191225_182734
On the 25/12 I got help from Ernie to mount the last parts I couldn't do by my self, then of to Christmas dinner with my family at my sisters plays.

I spoke too Ernie when he drove in to the 4x4 meet I drove home to have a shower, breakfast and pick up my youngest son after an all nighter in the workshop. Now I had been awake for 22 hours and spent 17 of them in the workshop.

When I was back in the shop after 1,5 hour me and my son mounted the headlights and tightened the bolts to the seats and then of to the 4x4 meet with the Willys.

I'm very happy that it all worked out.

A Giant thanks to my wife that supported me and let me spend so many hours in the workshop before and under Christmas.

Looks great! Looks wide for the height, so should be very stable on a side hill. Color looks great to! Any bugs besides the spring height? How much did you get to run it?
I had it out four times now around 3-4 hours of driving every time.

I still have to mount parts on the car so I will have the final weights of it and then I can adjust the CO to work a 100%.

Apart from that I only have had small bits and pieces that have needed been adjusted, for example I broke the pressure pipe on the PS-pump due to stress from a to long hose.
