  • fishin' trawler snags cable
  • cable snags trawler's propeller

I didn't watch either but based off those guesses I am adding we cut it and blamed it on the russians
 
If not a fishing mishap, then the culprit is whomever wanted to run a ship (or sub) through there w/o having their sound footprint recorded.
 
There are sea going lizards. Galapagos Island Iguanas. So Lizards are another possibility.

I braved and watched the whole thing.

Its conclusion says a theory is the Russians were (or still are?) training to sabotage listening & communication cables. To cut all of them if going full war with NATO. Severing significant of network communication going in/out Europe and to eliminate sea surveillance.






I can see that to be plausible.
