Anyone able to help ID this Detroit application?

I’m told it’s 35 spline d60 but I think there’s ones for thin gear and shallow gear, and is 98+ different than 97 down?

Looking to see if it’ll fit an 05+

Measure the bearing surfaces. That'll narrow down the application substantially.
 
It's not in my hands yet, these are pictures I asked seller to take. I'm planning on buying it sight unseen and having a buddy bring it to me. Seller thinks it came out of a rear 60

Might just need to gamble and buy it and measure for myself.
 
A D60 is a D60.

The only difference would have been the deck height making it a series 3 or series 4 carrier.

Idk about the 05+ and "super d60s" but out side of d61 state pretty muck stands true.

If its got 30/32/35 spl it will take any of those 3.

I didn’t fully understand this part of Billavista, I interpreted it as Super Duty 99+ is different

** Note: The carrier is the same for all Ford RC 60's UP TO 98, and is the same as the GM/Dodge 4.10 carrier - namely part # 706040X.

That’s just more confusing information. I’ve read it 3 times and still can’t quite comprehend it.

He is explaining the difference between a series 3 and a series 4 carrier. Thick cut gears are required for a series 3 (4.10 and down). I didn’t ever wheel or do anything cool back when Billavista was offering this information. All I can say is today it appears to have become common for the aftermarket gears to be thick cut without actualy saying they are thick cut.

So with a series 3 (4.10 and numerically lower) carrier you’d have thick cut gears.
The situation he describes is you use a stock series 3 carrier with 5.38 gears, then you go buy a locker and read ‘4.56 and up’ so you buy it. You just bought a series 4 which moves the 5.38 ring gear you already own 0.135” closer to the pinion. Now you’re kinda fucked because you can’t get the gears to install because thick cut gears plus less offset carrier = no worky. You would have to buy THIN gears for a series 4 carrier.





I got lucky and bought a series 3 locker for the Sterling in my shitbox, then bought USA Gear brand 5.13 gears. They installed fine and I’ve never setup gears except the ones in my Jeep now.

There is no carrier break on the Sterlings.



The way he explains the carrier break is extremely confusing.
 
Agreed.the article was written for the Dana 60. I just don’t know what I am talking about in regards to my rear axle.
