Well, we have a Bronco thread....why not a Dentside thread....

Mine's a '77 shortbed, pretty much rust free save for a tiny bit of bubbling on one of the rear fender lips
Fresh 351M, NP435/NP205
9"/D44 combo. Both ends have Chrome moly shafts; rear has a Detroit, Front has a Detroit True Trac, Warn premiums, 4.10 gears
5" Deaver springs
Lengthened driveshafts, longer brake lines
Custom Sliders with steps so the woman can get in
Bilstein remote res shocks
Drop pitman arm and adjustable track bar with a much stronger than stock frame side mount
Duff Long arms up front
ProtoFab bumpers for a Bronco
Suspension seats
GM 1 wire Alternator / Dual Batteries
Bunch of toolboxes
35s on 15" Aluminum Discount Tire specials
78-79 style steering
Cheapo HF Winch
Dakota Dash
R134 Aftermarket AC
Uniden trucker radio with a Wilson 1000
Champion Radiator (not sure this was worth the money)
Lots and lots of new replacement parts

It's been a fun project for the past 4 years that likes to eat paychecks. I always get the familiar "I used to have one of those back in the day" type comments on it.

1978 F150 4x4 short bed regular cab
  • Originally had a 5.8/351M but blew that up and swapped in a remanufactured 6.6/400 with an RV cam and all of the smog stuff when I moved back to CA last year (it's a Federal truck luckily).
  • Stock C6/NP205
  • Stock Dana 44 hi-pinion and Ford 9-inch
  • 1-2" Superlift springs in the front (ride great but closer to stock or 1" in height)
  • 4" Deaver springs in the rear with the factory lift-block removed for 1" of total lift.
  • Bilstein 5100's all around
  • BFGoodrich KM3's 33x15x12.5 on stock rims
It's currently my only vehicle but shopping for a 66-75 Bronco to handle daily driving and build the F150 up. Those plans would be the next stage and include:
  • Superduty axles using the RuffStuff radius arm kit,
  • 40 inch tires
  • ARB lockers
  • Sliders
  • cage
Top three pics are the most current; last two are the day after I bought it and drove it from Charlottesville, VA to Norfolk, VA.

Sorry I dont have any fords to share never have never will but to the OP yours looks nice.

I got this in January. It is in the garage now. 1976 f100. 360, 4 speed. Needs some work. D-Rat, do you know what rear bumper that is? Mine has one, and i thought it was a farmer build, then I saw another dent not far from me that had the same bumper.

Protofab in Mayer, AZ built mine....looks about the same as yours but with the tire carrier. Bronco Graveyard sold them for a while, but I don't think they're offered any longer there.

My '76. 460/NP435, axles are '78-9 HP44/60, 78 steering box with RuffStuff crossover steering. It's my weekend cruiser mostly, and an excuse to buy cool old wheels when I find em like the American Racing Vectors that are currently on it. Body is rough around the edges but I kinda prefer it that way because I only have to wash it once a year.

Not mine, but it’s my all time favorite dentside. The build was called “the fodge” over on the other site, I can’t check the dudes name because I’ve been banned again, but it hasn’t been updated in years and I doubt he will bring it over here. But he swapped the dentside body onto a Dodge Ram frame to gain the Cummins, built a flatbed for it, and proceeded to use the ever loving hell out of it

edit- montanatrout was the guys name

Made me think of this truck

So did the motor, the only way to make a stock 400 run worse is blow both headgaskets drunk doing a burnout, wreck it then continue to run it and torch the cylinder walls so bad it only runs on 3 cylinders. And that guy i bought it from for $500 payed $9500 for it in 2001. It barely made it onto the trailer in 4 low. I fixed some shit, put a craigslist 400 in it and got 10 years out of it.

D-Rat, enjoyed your posts when you were setting up that Ford. Nice ride.

Bunch of nice ones in this thread, dents are my all time favorite. Always liked montanatrout's build.

Mine is posted here somewhere already. 79 350 4x4 supercab with a mild 460 with d0ve heads, 435, 205 and a gear vendors. Re-arched springs on 35's. Snapped a rear axle shaft and fucked the carrier up so in the middle of throwing it back together with all new parts. Waiting on 1 bearing to finish.

Now that is a badass truck; color scheme and all! :smokin:

Any chance we can edit the title to include the bumpsides too? I know we have a couple of them kicking around on irate4x4, and some of them are very nice

Dont think any of us have the 4wd bumpside. 4x4 in that year was not that common. The only less common configuration was a step side

Here is my '78 F250 when I first bought it and how it sits now. It's basically a mall crawler at this point. 460/C6, old shitty Skyjacker lift, 37" General X3's on H2 wheels, Fitech with all new fuel system and in tank Walbro pump. Lots of things planned when I have free time and money, if that ever happens.

Also some bonus pictures of my old '78 that I rolled and miss.

Will be starting a build on a 76 short bed f100 4x4 this winter. It's the truck I had 30 years ago 😁

I was looking for a 5.0 97/98 explorer for the engine. I acquired one the owner said was a 98 but after getting it home I discovered it's a 2000....which I'm hearing will be a bitch to try to use and keep the fuel injection so it may be getting swapped back to carb. Damn it.

Why not just put 5.0 Mustang wiring/computer on the sploder motor and run a distributor instead of the EDIS? The stuff's still cheap and common.

What? Explorer motors are super easy to swap, and putting Mustang stuff on one is :homer: OBD II and coil on plug is the way to go :smokin: Why do you think the 2000 is so much worse? Just because it uses a returnless fuel system and higher pressure?

I'll have to look into that. Electronic wise I'm pretty :homer:.
