As a young coach, my first year, we got into the state finals against this old dude who had been around forever. I was the young upstart, playing a more modern game, but, in the end, he had a better team and we lost to them 5-4 in a really good game. The games were partially carried on the news because the games were during that 5-7 window, so, during sports, they'd do a remote. Right after the game was over, Alan Cutler (the sports dude) interviewed this guy and he said, 'you know alan, the lord watches over us and sometimes good things happen to good people.'
Then he went on to say how he really thought they'd beat us by more, but we 'got lucky with some hits and some calls' and that was why it was close.
I saw that shit at 10 pm after getting home. I was like 'fuck that guy' it was a good game and fair and we could have won, we just didn't win that day. It was a great year for us and everyone should be happy, not this jesus got us a win shit.
The next year, we beat those guys 3 times. the last in an early round of the playoffs (by draw) and we beat them soundly. They had a good team, but my kids HATED that dude. After the game, the state journal sports guy and a guy from the herald leader (who I drank beer with) interviewed me. They knew (because I'd told them about the bullshit the year before and they said they knew the coach was a jackass) how I felt, but their reporter thing kicked on and they thought 'oh he'll roast this coach' and get even.
Instead, I congratulated their team (henry clay high school) and coach on a great year and a well played game and said we looked forward to our next opportunity. Those guys still added in that there was 'controversy' after the comments the other coach made the previous year and that many 'parents and boosters' on both sides had been upset about it.
The other coached called me and went on and on about how unfair it was and why did I say those things and blah blah... I guess he called Steve (one of the reporters) and his editor to complain too.
Trump is one of the wiliest competitors we've seen in a long time. He has taken the Roy Cohn method to its extreme and had TREMENDOUS success with it. Part of that is never accepting any defeat nor any setback. It isn't 'never give up' or 'get back up' it is I never went down, you lied and if I win, I should have won bigger because you cheated or I didn't lose, you cheated.
That debate should have been a cakewalk for DJT. He knows those issues. He knows his stance. He knows how to talk about it. He didn't prepare, he let his emotions flare and he didn't take her seriously.
David Muir and Linsey whatever her name is are nobodies compared to Trump. Do you really believe that the three of those people are more savvy than Trump? Trump is a giant. He is the master of the deal. He negotiates with the world's tyrants and brings them to his knees... how on earth could he be 'that guy' but be waylaid by some lightweights?
