Well...

Is it Tuesday?

Anyone have a source for extended rivet gun tips? I've only come up with Italy or China so far.
Trailer marker lights have recessed hole which is dumb. Was going to use some backing washers to space it out, but alas no long enough rivets on hand.

I ended up screwing them on, but it bothers me I have quite an assortment of riveting tools and couldn't get this done.

use rivnuts and stainless hardware for such applications

...because fuck the next guy, right?

Stainless hardware is the devil in riv nuts unless an antisieze compound is used. Those little fuckers will just spin in their holes and cause much grief and consternation

If you can get to the backside, a captive lock washer style nut on a 1/4 20 screw/bolt works pretty titty in that application. Purple loc tite can also be used to ensure things stay put until you want to take it back apart

No doubt, the pressure required to break the nail will crush plastic.

Although I do agree with this 100%

Fastening to aluminium, so figured aluminum rivets would avoid future corrosion.

I am way too fussy.

Of course I use antiseize since most stainless hardware is soft 18-8 that will gaul if you use anything but hand tools to install it. I have stainless rivnuts too depending on application and those get slathered with antiseize.

no.. I wouldn't rivet them on. i've argued with them every time they're riveted on.. double when using SS rivets.. the rivet doesn't want to be drilled out.. just spins.. end up breaking the light and cuttin off the rivet. and then to hole is too big for the screw you'd like to use
