Damn it Illinois!

Man, they be a lotta damn dam failures lately.

We had a dam failure about 45 minutes from here... well, the earth next to the dam washed away.

The night before the erosion, there was 8" of rainfall. In the week leading up to it, there was 14-18", depending upon where you measured. The region had just completed a 60-day period that brought us from "Exceptional drought" to normal conditions, so everything was already saturated.

This is well beyond the design limits of most reservoirs. 3 feet of rain in 3 weeks is nothing to shake a stick at.
