Daily driver shitbox advice

90's Nissan Sentra
good mileage, cheap, and your kid can still work on it l

and you can beat the shit out of those things

Looks like you already made a responsible decision

To answer the original question, my 08 Mazda 3 hatch meets all those requirements. Been a great beater for the last 40k mi for under $5k.

This is not on your list, but my son just bought a 2008 Honda Fit, he uses the thing as his commuter/ truck, he folded down the rear seats threw a rubber mat in the back he hauls his work stuff around in it. Also the roofline is good for the rear seats.

it gets 35 mpg or so and has been dependable as all hell.
He paid $4500
They're surprisingly roomy for the size too. Had to drive one at work once and my 6'3" fatass fit in it just fine and could see out of it well.

My son is 6'1" and because of the roofline the rear seat is roomy also

Fired mine up the other day. The prior owner stated it ran but the carb over flowed.

It has a Holley 2barrel. They ran an aftermarket electric fuel pump, which I am guessing put out too much psi.

I found the factory electric pump that is supposedly low psi. I will check voltage to it this weekend and see if it is broken or not getting power.

The car car runs off gravity fed fuel fine.

I hadn't considered that:smokin:
I'm looking at ~2000 Beetle to swap entire drivetrain/suspension into so I don't have to use custom CVs... think Project Binky but with a LOT less skill:lmao: The beetle is ~8" WMS wider but I'm shooting for a mountain 'rally racer' type build so no issue. I can't find a weight on the civic trans but the TDI is about 70lbs heavier.

Why not just throw a adjustable regulator with a psi gauge in one of the ports and beat on it for a while?

It sits under the rear seat in a pocket on the floorboard. I am not sure it is plumbed into the tank right now either as I found the pump to tank hose assembly. In the trunk.

The prior owner swapped an upgraded package dash into mine. I will chase wires this weekend to verify it is getting g power.

Started tearing into the cars front end last night. Every bolt/part the prior owner touched was loose. Beyond that, I kinda want "nicer"

Little shitty stamped steel control arm with a approx 1/2" rod keeping it held straight...meh. I would like to see something like a A arm under there personally.....

Will see where my mind goes with this thing.

It's practically the same weight as a golf cart, if you start putting beefy control arms and braces and links you'll lose all the lightness.

While I agree. I would hesitate to think two control arms would add enough weight to disturb the car much.

If I could find one....a Datsun B210. They were rwd so could make for a radical drive train. 😁

Got the drivers front end put together.

The prior owner didn't seem to tighten anything.

The prior owner attempted to install 1979 lower control arms in. They did not fit due to a buldge on the frame mount side, which did not allow the bolt to fully seat in the backside of the mount.

I compared the old, factory arm to the new one. They are dimensionally the same seemingly otherwise.

I trimmed and rewarded the frame side mount to fit and all seems well.
