I use my portaband for about everything but it has its limitations. I use it how its intended and i have a swag table for it. Curious if anyone had ideas of how to support long pieces of stock 10ft+ while cutting using it in the vertical position. I know theres better tools for this or i could just take it off the table but just wanted to see if anyones come up with anything. While i dont have any ive used those conveyor type roller stands for horizontal band saws and cold saws but when using this saw vertically you have to push the material to the blade so not sure that will work the best.

Are you talking about cutting lengthwise or across?

At work we have an adjustable stand with a single roller and just kind of make due even with heavy stuff like a 3'x4' 1" thick steel plate.

At home I use a helper.

Im talking like cutting a round tube across pushing it into the blade, i guess i will have to try a roller stand

If you are talking length like ripping it then I'd think table saw design. Use the swag setup but build off of it like cabinet makers do on table saws. Use a fence to push the material along evenly.

Otherwise, you should be able to use the roller stand. It would be nice to have a longer support area with a guide just like table saws have so that you get a straight cut.

Yeah, ours is just a single roller for support and the material just skids down its length.

A solid bar or piece of flat stock would do the same thing.

Something that helps depending on hour saw is to let the upper blade guide arm test just above the work.

That way when you cut through the blade guide/arm contraption catches the cut end of the material when the balance changes due to the piece being cut off falling free.

May not work on your setup OP, just throwing it out there.

Bigger table? You can see my setup in the background of this pic, swag table always seemed too small to me so i just mounted mine on a 2x2 welding table I had. If i'm working on the end of a long stick i've set up a sawhorse, but generally prefer the chopsaw for that stuff. If you do it frequently i'd build/buy a sawhorse at the same height as your swag table.

Hang one end off an overhead or engine hoist if cutting the end of a long part.

I had to use our stand today so I took a pic.

Nice that looks like it works well that stand looks a lot sturdier than what we had guess that's why i thought it wouldn't be that stable.
