Looking for a wood case/box to put a nice pistol in. does anyone know where i could have one made? Is felt lined the way to go?

Dont really want to go the plastic pelican and closed cell foam route, looking more towards something felt-lined (or another material that acts like closed cell foam in that it doesnt hold moisture). another option is to make my own from an old box and just cut out an insert for it.

suggestions?

There are some nice jewelry boxes that could be repurposed if you want to do some of the work.

actually currently looking at old flatware/silverware boxes. seem to be good quality wood, right dimensions, easily attainable.

can I just make a wood block insert, scroll out the gun outline, and then glue a padded non-marring material down?

Whatever material you get, I would try to make sure it doesn’t gas off if you plan to store your pistol in it for a long period of time.

I used ~3" styrofoam and some black felt-like material for my custom cases. Used spray on glue to fix the styrofoam to the box and the cloth to the styrofoam. Got everything at the Hobby Lobby.

The felt material won't cause corrosion or metal discoloration?

I bought an antique optometrist's lens box to use as a jewelry box for Jewels' jewels. It's a little 2 drawer chest of drawers with a bunch of dividers in each drawer.

We lined the drawers with this. It's adhesive backed. It's sticky enough to stay put but not so sticky that it's permanent. It's only been done for maybe 3 months now but so far holding up well.

I can't answer all sciency 'n such regarding what may cause a reaction... I can only say that I haven't seen ANY difference in the appearance in any of my guns. The material I used wasn't exactly felt but more of a "wooly" or "fuzzy" fabric. I was able to make that conform better to the irregular shapes.

I bought a shoe shine box from an antique store, laid in some basic green foam that filled it up to the top of the bottom and all under the top, put a pair of revolvers in it and cut away with a razor blade, then put some red fabric...think it was a lightweight felt. Glued it all in place with fabric glue and it came out pretty neat.

Gave it to my buddy who comes from a family restoring old wood antiques and similar smalls, so it fits in well at his place.

sorry, couldn't find pictures
