Cushioned hitches. Do they work?

I own a Jayco super C Motorhome that’s 39’ long. I have a few different trailers I’ll be towing behind it, depending on the trip and I’m looking to eliminate or limit the trailer banging around.

My hewescraft Oceanpro is a rather large aluminum fishing boat and it bangs around pretty good behind my pickup. The other is a 14k load trail tilt deck equipment trailer with either rzrs and quads or a 1 ton Jk. It’s a heavy setup and when it hits bumps, you feel them.

Is there a reasonable cushioned hitch out there that works?

Behind my trucks, I don’t care about the banging around, but I’d rather not beat the shit outta my Motorhome.

Do you have any of the u bolt anti rattle things on the hitch? IT's a simple that took the clunk out of my hitch on the RV.

I put one on and towed it around. Huge difference.
I think I’m going to try my load leveling bars now and see what it feels like.

My tilt deck trailer has 12ply tires and will be unloaded next week, headed to vegas. When it hits bumps, it wants to launch all over the place.

Im thinking the clamp will keep the hitch from clanking around and the leveling bars will help keep the trailer planted.

WD hitch work well for this.

Probably can make it to not bounce as much if you load the tongue a little heavier than you normally will, and offset it via WD hitch.

I think that this is the plan.

I came across a deal on a shocker hitch and was doubtful about it working.

I was wrong. It works great if you get the air pressure right. It doesn’t take much air to adjust it.

I’m sold on them and my wife is even happier. Truck rides so much smoother. My wife can even tell me when the air pressure needs to be adjusted.

I have the Gen-Y hitch and it makes a huge difference. It was around 800 bucks so not cheap but it is noticeably smoother than a traditional hitch.

I ran into a guy at work that used one of these air bag ones. he seemed like he really liked it

I just picked one up for my gooseneck trailer and it makes a huge difference. I don't feel the jerking anymore. Much smoother!

I'll like to share that I learned its a good habit to pay attention on rear suspension if there's overload leaf spring, the second spring pack above main leaf springs.

I was able to cure rough jerking ride by to redistribute the load to compress rear suspension some more. Just barely touching or lightly loaded made for rough riding as rear suspension cycle through bumps slapping on overload perches/hangers or bouncing off them.

my $0.02

Looking at the Shocker Air hitch for the goosenecks. That looks like it would take up a helluva lot of real estate in the bed. Keeping the area around the pin clear so the hitch doesn't swing into it. I can't be the only guy that throws shit in the bed of the truck when pulling my gooseneck.

As long as you have about 8" in diameter clear of stuff around the ball you will be ok. It's definitely worth it though.

Is the trailer light in the hitch? Move the load forward. Boat trailers are usually balanced decently causing rattles to the Hitch.

I found the Cody hitches a couple years ago when I was looking into th0se. I liked that the cushion part was stationary so I didn't have to worry about the hitch rotating in the bed and hitting other stuff. When we go on vacation I haul two SXS on my gooseneck and the bed gets filled with totes and coolers. Losing the bed space because of hitch clearance is what has kept me from buying anything.

I have no experience with the Cody hitch and don't know anyone with one.

Definitely. You want that thing either engaged or completely free. Bouncing on and off of it gets old fast.

I cant stand the master cylinder in the tongue behind lunet hitch type setup to activate the brakes on the trailer, as its a small trailer thats weight just doesn't need it the truck can handle the weight (small ex military single axle trailer)
