Way out West.
Truck is 2015, and I replaced the original battery in 2020, so I guess it's time. Both factory MOPAR batteries made by, I don't know. Used to buy DuraLast Gold from Autozone for the F250 and they'd usually shit the bed right about the 3 year mark, so I'd get a replacement set and get 6 years out of a purchase, but this EcoDiesel is a much smaller engine so it doesn't take as much juice to turn over, but it's got a shit-ton of electrical accessories including bun warmers/coolers, power everything, etc. Interstate sells a H8 with 900cca and 160 minute reserve for $170, which is about what I'd expect. With all the M&A, I know there's only a few mfgs, but I don't know who owns what.

Should I be looking elsewhere, brands?

I put a Bosch in the jeep. It’s been about two years and a lot of that time it sat dead. Does fine as long as I remember to put it on a trickle charger because I only drive it every two months or so.

Costco | Interstate Batteries
Interstate H8s are C R A P.

Surprisingly one of the best H8 AGMs on the market is from Walmart. Seriously. It even says "Made in Germany" on it; its a Varta.

I put an x2 power in my truck a few years ago and not so much as a hiccup. 5 year free replacement warranty too. It was $330 but so far it's worth it.

The only AGM’s I could find for my Ram were Les Schwab tire branded, I couldn’t even find one in stock for my old vette. The stock of AGM’s is thin in this area for whatever reason.

currently running a varta that came outta a BMW
it's stamped '13 on one of the posts

fails the load test according to the sticker, as all of my junkpicked batteries do, but it's going good enough, gonna have a good cold snap coming up so I'm probably gonna be swapping it out after talking it up

Well not anymore. Made in S Korea. Hopefully it's a good one, has a 4 year replacement warranty, but I'll be out of the truck before then.

I don’t have the cold extremes most do. But on one Duramax I run two group 78 everstart platinums. The other I run Oriely’s brand AGMs (got them on sale for under 200 bucks).

I don’t know all the electrical gremlins, but both trucks would go dead if left sitting for more than a week. New batteries and they both can sit for a month no issue and start just fine.

I have no issues with either. I just like Walmart because in my little town, we have one and they warranty really easy.

The Interstate AGMs have been good for me and my customers.

Just put an Costco interstate AGM H8 in my moms car. Looked the same as they always have.

Also lots of new cars need the battery monitor system reset when a new battery is installed. This can explain premature failure.

Odyssey batteries are what I use:

Same. I've got three that are holding up well.

Price has gone from $212 to $350, and warranty is down from 5 yr to 4yr, though.

Yeah. I asked the “what happened to 5 years?” When I picked up the latest a few weeks ago

Any particular reason to go with agm instead just the standard sealed?

On road rig with standard mounting

The AGM battery’s internal resistance is among the lowest of the various lead acid batteries. While a new flooded lead acid battery can have an internal resistance of 10-15%, a new AGM battery can be as low as 2%.
Low internal resistance translates to increased battery voltage output.

Low internal resistance also grants the AGM battery faster charging times. Not as fast as a lithium battery, but up to 5x more than a flooded lead acid battery, when using the same power source.

AGM batteries have an 80% depth of discharge (DoD), which is better than the 50% DoD offered by a flooded cell battery.

etc...

Sure....for a 2015 dodge 1500 commuter pickup.

Not likely to be something that is getting deep discharge or needs fast recharge

I dunno. I've left a light on in my DD more than once, and being able to throw 20a at it and be done charging in a hurry is nice.

Like 4wd- you don't really need it, but it's nice.

Sealed so it doesn't eat your cables is nice too.

You can't charge a sealed lead acid at 20 amps

If it's just about spending money, feel free to shoot me a $50 fee and save $100 on the battery :flipoff2:

I had 2 2500 dodge trucks start to die over night. The first one sat a lot so figured whatever but if it was driven daily it was fine. The other would be dead if it sat for a few days. But of course it was good daily.

The first one I brought in and cleaned the fuck out of the terminals and all connections then hit it with dielectric grease and tightened the clamps solid. It can sit for weeks now and it's fine. So I did the same to the other truck and it's been fine too. Neither set of terminals looked bad at all, just a tiny bit of shmoo but apparently enough to cause a parasitic draw. :homer:

I got a Superstart from Oreillys for our 14 Charger a few years back. Old battery was still working fine at 6 years, but with everything controlled by it wanted a new one before it did have issues. Its been fine. Kept power to the wires while I switched it just for my own peace of mind. Easy way to not worry about any resets.

...the fuckin' what?

Lot of vehicles have a shunt installed that monitors battery charge/discharge and characterizes its life cycle and whatnot, then it is supposed to modify the charging charactistics on the charging system to suit.

So when you replace the battery you have to reset the system because it's been learned to the prior and won't be "optimal".

I think it's dumb.

My focus, you can't just change from lead acid to agm without reconfiguring the battery monitor system, or it won't charge correctly and could fuck up the battery. Has to be done by a dealer or with forscan.

Cheapest f'n walmart batteries $60 now due to inflation have been lasting over 3 years in my 7.3 diesel and seem to die a slow death after that so you see it comming. Personally I dont see the value in a $400+ set of batteries
