What’s your thoughts?

For me, I’m not in the market for a new truck as my F150 is doing fine and I drive a company truck for most of the miles I drive. But I do like to keep a pulse on the markets health as I think it’s tied directly to everything else like housing is.

We recently bought a new explorer. We checked with half a dozen dealers until we found just what we wanted but all them were selling at MSRP. The only thing that varied between dealers was the value of our trade.

Never heard of it.
It's basically invoice pricing.

I got my X Plan PIN through the Mustang Club of America. $25 (looks like they went up to $35) for a 1 year membership.

  • Digital and Standard Members receive members-only discounts, including Ford X-Plan pricing on new Ford vehicles. Ford does not offer X-Plan discounts outside the USA. X-Plan pricing is not available on all models. Check with your preferred dealer for X-Plan discounts. You must be a member of MCA for a minimum of 90 days before you can use X-Plan.

My buddies shop is next to a repo company, the wreckers roll in every 5 minutes with something. they were 3 car haulers out in the road loading up cars for auctions last time I was there, he says the Cops are there everyday because the hoodrats show up and start shit. 3 years ago that lot was a ghost town., it's coming buckle up.

Interest rates are nuts so keep that in mind if you're financing.

I have also seen a sizable increase in repo.

But it's just as you explained, hood rat BHPH garbage. Most isn't worth the time to haul across the scales.

franchise dealers made stupid money the past 18 months. A precedent has been set. They'll offer 0% finance instead of $5k off MSRP and the masses will flock in.

Awesome signature!

I dont know how people are driving new trucks right now. I make good money and cant fathom a $1k car payment. I could swing it but no vehicle is worth that to me. I remember how happy my neighbor was bringing home his new dealer lifted silverado a year ago and it was only $5k over retail due to no inventory on a POS that was ridiculously overpriced to begin with.

I said that too before buying my first $987/month truck (mostly because I kept the cash from my trade and financed the whole thing).
After 4years of the 66 month term I wondered what I did with that $987/month before I bought this truck....

ZERO days or weekends lost in that 4 years from wrenching on the the tow vehicle and ZERO breakdowns on the road, unique to my previous situation but I was glad to be able to enjoy my vacations for a change.

It also turned out I really needed that deduction on my taxes for my 1099 income...

I haul for a living with ~20 year old trucks, I dont experience these break downs you speak of. I'm glad $1000/month is worth $100/month in maintenance. Theres no way I spend $12k a year, or even half that, keeping them collectively on the road.

You can write off purchase price or miles, I write of miles. Paid for trucks paying for themselves again.

Say you wanted a fancy new truck, good for you. But trying to claim it's a genius financial decision is a misnomer.

You can depreciate the truck purchase price and write off all expenses. That's how we did it.

The last two truck we bought in 2016 allowed us a $126k depreciation. That allowed us $126k in tax free income just on the purchase in 2016.

Then we expense all fuel, TBAs, maintenance and upgrades (bed covers, seat covers, Husky liners, winches, hitches, ect).

We basically purchased the trucks for 51.9 cents on the dollar.

So you depreciated 100% the first year. How does that help making payments for 180 months? Are you claiming the income when you sell them?

I want to know how to fuck the government. So far buying a new $60k+ truck doesn't make sense.

I don't make payments. On anything.

When the trucks are sold/traded, that income will be declared.

If we hadn't retired, that "income" would just lessen the depreciation on the next truck by the sale/trade in amount.

I'm buying the truck anyway. Being able to buy it for 51.9 cents on the dollar is a bonus.

We bought a dozen or so trucks over the years. This last pair of trucks won't roll over into new trucks. It's the end of the line.

I can't tell you how to fuck the government. I can tell you some ways to lessen the fucking the government gives you.
